The new Song of Ice and Fire app is kind of cool! And free! You can set locations for any city in the world (I use my own hometown, my childhood town, my mother's and sister's current towns, plus major cities like London and Las Vegas), and depending on the time and weather in each place, you get a fitting screenshot and quote from the new HBO series!

In-app, these images are animated. Clouds move, grass sways, etc.

As in New York City so in Winterfell

As in Los Angeles so in The Dothraki Sea

As in London so in King's Landing

As in Portland (Maine), so in The North -- my favorite!

Hmm. Oddly, while it gives the weather and time of day for the location, the time listing in the screenshot is my local time.

All you Song of Ice and Fire folks, HBO sent out a "press kit" (which is nothing like any press kit ever sent out before) to a few blogging sites and a couple critics. It looks pretty darned amazing.

This blogger made a video of opening it all up and checking it out.

Through the whole video all I could think about was how much money he could make selling it. I bet he could get many, many thousands of dollars for it. And the guy only just finished reading the books two weeks ago! HBO couldn't find bigger fans to send it to? (LIKE ME!)

Anyway, video is pretty darned cool.

Edit: Wow. This is the wackiest, funniest, most silly mainstream music video ever:

I never post about WoW since I seem to do little post-worthy.

Still doing the jousting dailies (zzz) got 2/5 pets, will have third one tomorrow. May work on a mount after that. Or mounts.

Started doing Oracles dailies. Man, I hate them so much. Such annoying quests. Blah.

I made myself a Turbo-charged flying thingie. Not sure if I like it more than my drake or not, but it's rarer so I suppose I'll make it my main flying mount.

Amusing if blurry moment in AB:

"Thebarn has assaulted the stables!"

Most of what I do in WoW is RP! Yay! Most of my RP is fighting to retake or defend my beloved wagon in Murder Row of Silvermoon. Heehee. Kae and I often fight over it... bloodily -- art by Kae!

A fellow who shares the wagon (but makes no claims on it, so gets stabbed less often) drew my character Keen. Eee! The heart over his head amused me, since we kissed later that night. :P

---

Song of Ice and Fire: I'm so close to giving up on book #4. It's become "I have to get through this book", not any sort of enjoyable reading. It's gotten so bad that I skim boring chapters and skipped an entire one (fricking Iron Islands, I don't care!).

First time I almost stopped reading was when the Hound was confirmed dead. Know what? The wonder of being willing to kill off your main characters fades after the 743873134730104th time you do it. Then, when Brienne seemed dead, I was ready to not just stop reading, but toss the book out a window. Two of the very, very few characters I like in the entire book, dead.

For the first time ever, I spoiled myself on purpose. I skimmed ahead, looking for more Brienne chapters. I spotted one, so at least maybe she's not dead... or she's just going to die slowly.

At least I'm almost done with the book, just a few more chapters to go. I have so many books piled up waiting to be read -- five arrived in the last week alone! Arg!

First off: If I wanted to annoy my friends list, I'd make this in 100 point font size, flashing neon yellow with a background of pink sparklies: I love my guild! Oh My God, I finally found MU*-quality level RP on WoW! My favorite thing in RP is when I don't OOCly know what's going on -- don't know what the real truth is, don't know who to trust. Some people want to know all that and enjoy their RP just fine, but if my character doesn't know then I don't want to either.

At this point in time, it's just so crazy! My character is in a relationship with someone who may or may not be evil and/or insane. The woman who is trying to help him is in a relationship with an evil person, so is the woman really helping him or getting info for her evil relationship person? There are levels and levels of trust issues and conflict and power issues all within the guild... and our guild is well enough known that others are often making organized attacks on our members (we're kind of an evil bad guy guild, sort of). So while we're dealing with all this internal stuff, we currently have external people hunting us down!

I'm loving it just so very very much. Twice now I've stayed up an hour past bedtime to play more! zzzz

WoW: I was bad today and played well past the point of being annoyed with the game. I hadn't realized that you needed to be exalted with AC (not just be done with all the jousting) to use the AC vendor. Grrrr. No XP+ chest piece for me! So I set about to questing. I hate questing. While I was doing AC, I noticed that Ebon Blade was mixed in, so I could do that and get a spiffy tabard for RP (it looks good with my armor!). I spent nearly six hours questing today. I did the fricking annoying questline that I hated in (troll place in Northrend that I'm not going to look up the spelling of). I hated it when I did it for XP, I hated it now.

Anyway, speaking of WoW things I hate, new guild dragged me to some heroics thing. I sucked so much ass, I hated it... I had thought I sucked so badly that they wouldn't ask me again, but they did today (but this time they took no for an answer).

I used to think the WoW battle system was so much easier than FFXI's, but it's really just different. What the fricking hell is it about standing in things? Don't stand in the fire! Don't stand in the glowing purple stuff! Don't stand in the pools of snake vomit! How the heck can you do your jobs and watch your icons and timers and crap when you need to watch where you're standing? Blah.

Funny/sad thing: I spent a good number of minutes today trying to remember how the FFXI [pos] (with pointy brackets) system worked. I couldn't for the life of me remember what sort of info was in the brackets to tell people where things were! Ha ha. I can't believe I've forgotten so much...

Song of Ice and Fire: I can't say book #4 (crows) sucks, but... god. It's just... what the hell happened? I'm about 300 pages in, and it's like it doesn't belong in the series at all. What the hell happened to the storyline? What about the Others? The north? All the fricking chapter characters? Now we have chapters for The Fallen Knight, The Queenmaker, The Dog On The Corner. I mean what the hell. Cersei as a chapter character is killing me. She's insane, she's power hungry, she's stupid. I get it. Holy crap, seeing that first hand is just so damned annoying.

The whole fricking Iron Islands/Greyjoy stuff can go jump in a lake. The religious crap annoys me. The plotline is dull.

Brienne is the only good thing about the entire book so far.

I skimmed through the rest of the book. Not one single Tyrion chapter that I could find. WTF? He was the best chapters in the first three books.

If book #5 is like this, it might put me off the whole series...

Man, these books are killing me! In a good way! I couldn't sleep this morning, so I got up an hour early. I started in on my WoW dailies, but quickly got bored so went to read instead.

Cut for spoiler in third book... )

Once I was asked how I thought the series would end, and jokingly I had said "with every single main character killed off". More and more I'm coming to believe that might be true!

RP: I take back all I said about RP on Moon Guard and apply it to just Alliance RP on Moon Guard. :P Yesterday I made a belf character there, and got two scenes that same day and one today! I worry a little about how low my standards are sinking, as I enjoyed the first scene even though it was with an utter godmodder. He posed attacking me off the bat, posed a success each time, posed kicking me in the chest and making me cough up blood, posed me nearly bleeding to death... yet somehow I enjoyed it. I think (hope!) it might have been because I had been so long without RP... Scene after him was much much better (above average WoW RP), and the scene today was outstanding, at least as good as better-than-average MU* RP.

WoW: Thank god Keen is 80, as Horde has forgotten how to play every single PvP BG. We used to be able to win a couple of them, but now? We win NOTHING. AV was yesterday's daily. I went 0/25 before finally getting a win. Strand was today's, I went 0/7 before a win. Every single BG is like this. It's insane. We even lose WG, when we did nothing but win for weeks. Thankfully I don't need to or want to PvP much anymore, I just let myself be driven insane by do the daily.

I'm sitting on the whole druid character right now, since I'm getting my RP on MG.

Gaming: After thinking about it for a year or so, I finally bought a Wii. As usual, I bought it off Amazon (I swear, I forget RL stores exist, I get everything on Amazon now even if I want it right away). My main purpose for getting it is Wii Fit. I've gotten soooooo bad about exercising, maybe that will help. I figure the other sports games will help at least a little, too -- even just standing up and swinging my arms around will be more exercise than sitting at the computer!

Spoilers up to the wedding scene in the third book )

Work is settling down and settling in. I don't want to lock this post, so I won't go into details. There are some ups and some downs, but nothing so bad I'm going to /wrist over it.

Good news: The blood stain on my new cubical turned out to be hot chocolate or coffee! Eventually they sent someone to fix the lights (there had been zero of them over my desk), and the lighting let us see the true color. Yay not sitting in a murder cube!

WoW: Slow and steady wins the race? 78 rogue. I took tonight off... sort of. RPed all night (YAY). Did only one AV over lunchtime (only since it was the daily). I'm big enough for WG now! And boy is WG nicer than all the other BGs! I mean really, nicer. None of the crappy 'lol gay', 'im gunna fuck yo mama and yo dawg an den fuck u 2', etc. I'm guessing because it's just one server instead of a battlegroup, so what you do will somewhat stay with you.

Another good thing about WG: I'm making the currency to buy the XP+ shoulders! Woot! If I ever do another alt, they'll get 10% more XP in BGs and XPing and stuff! WG is amazing honor, too. I make 300-500 per AV, but in WG I make 3K each time. o.o

I'm semi-thinking about doing the '50 mounts' achievement for a white albino mount. If I get all the PvP mounts and all the mounts I can buy (not counting the one that costs 20,000G or whatever insane amount the most expensive one is) I'd be just one short. I could do rep for that one... (Of course getting all the PvP means I'd need 100+ WSG marks, and I hate WSG so much...) It's just semi-thinking about it really, since I don't need a new flying mount.

I'm also semi-doing the pet one, for the skunk pet. I wasted four hours the other day farming some instance to try to get a pet. BLAH. Less semi-doing this than the mount one, because WTF? I don't need, use, or overly like pets. It just bugs me that the achievement is there and I haven't done it. Unfinished work! Arg! It keeps me up at night!

TV: Blah. I'm currently watching Castle, Merlin, GI Joe, Smallville, and Burn Notice. They're all about the same: Not horrible but not great. "Meh", as all the kids say. I wish I could find another show that hooks me...

I need to write about Song of Ice and Fire sometime (I'm about a quarter into book three! Eee!), but not tonight. Loving it endlessly! Though I'm sad to hear that he's against fanfic. :( What's up with that?

Also, I know I'm very behind in replying to comments. Hopefully today I'll get caught up (if not today, then tomorrow for sure). Sorry all!

I keep meaning to sit down and write about this (as well as Hunter PvP in WoW) but I keep not having time for a long, thoughtful post.

The short version: Some of the best book(s) I've ever read! I'm still just on the first one, but I'm so very in love. Every single character is so perfect and real! And, somehow, in just a matter of words, the book pulls me so fully in! I wish I had more than an hour a day to read.

But that's not the point of this post! Eeeeee, I'm so excited about the news on the Game of Thrones HBO miniseries! Among great, great casting, the production team is the same one that did Rome and John Adams! Two of the most beautiful, well done miniseries in a while!

If you've not been following the casting news, Sean Bean is Eddard, Mark Addy is King Robert, Peter Dinklage is Tyrion (eee!).
