thistlechaser: (WoW Thack)

I had a probably-insane idea, but when it comes to crafting, that sort of thing doesn't stop me. I have 4 80s and one up-and-coming 80, and my professions were all messed up. Mining and herb should be on the same character, and that character should be the druid (nevermind I currently don't have a herb-picker). Alchemy is a profit-profession, and I'd really like two of them for double the CDs. Leather is a joke (just like in FFXI, ha!), next to zero profit there. I still don't have a goldsmith jewelcrafter, and that was the first one I wanted to do...

Originally:
Crowfeathers: Mining, alchemy (both max)
Thack: Skinning, leather (both max)
Keen: Mining, herbs (200-something, 150-something, spent the last three days leveling)

Crow is going to drop mining.
Thack dropped skinning and leather.
Keen dropped mining and herb.

Thack picked up herb and mining.
Keen picked up alchemy and JC.
Crow will have an empty slot once Thack gets mining high enough for Crow to drop it. Might put skinning here, for interesting Cata skinning.

I bet I've gotten herb to max ten times already, and skinning and mining probably five times each. It feels insane to be doing this again, but I want herb and mining on the same character (it only makes sense, why skip some nodes when you're out, and addons let you toggle between the two trackings every second). Herbing doesn't break flight form, and flight form is instant in/out, so my druid is really the best option for collecting.

At least leveling all these together works. Thack's ores and herbs are fed to Keen for his alchemy and JC.

I do need to figure out what to put into Crow's last slot. I don't really want to do leather again. Blacksmithing never seemed great to me. I have all others covered (Haken is inscription/enchant, big-Keen is engineering/tailor). Picking up skinning might be the best option...

I make decent money with jewelcrafting, cooking/fishing, and cloth. :) Never expected cloth to do that, but bags always sell. Always. Jewel of course is great since everyone needs gems. Mine, prospect, cut, sell.. woo!

Not at all related except in a "If you want to try crafting in FFXIV" kind of way. :)

Yeah, I got an email about that... I'm tempted but... I think I'm not going to bother. Someone else told me about the XP fatigue system and that was the last straw. I'm kind of curious, and I kind of want to see the graphics, but mostly not really.

I really do wonder how the game will do next to FFXI. People had worried it would be the death of FFXI, but could FFXI be the better of the two? Wacky thought!

As someone who played FFXI, I would say there's not enough novelty to warrant ditching an established character with max level jobs in FFXI.

But I also know that some FFXI players would love a graphics update. And to be fair the crafting system is different from anything any other MMORPG has tried to date.

As for the fatigue system, don't get me started. :P I may not level hardcore, but damn it I'll fight for your right to!

That was my thought as well. I don't want to do it, but it darned well should be available to those who do!

I hate the fatigue-system idea...but currently in FFXI, I don't XP more than 8 hours a week. I'm still working my jobs towards the 80 cap (soon to be 85 cap), but a single [good] Abyssea party can take you 75-80 in 4-5 hours. Those are at merit party speed if not faster, getting 400-500xp per kill (once auras are up), plus the bonus 1200xp every few minutes from chests.

That's so insane! People must be happy about it though!

Its a blast. XP Parties aren't powerful enough for abyssea, so you have XP Alliances, with a single alliance leader yelling "NO WS KILLS" or "NO MAGIC KILLS" at regular intervals to maintain the correct auras, and 1 or 2 low level people running around solving simple number puzzles/guessing games to open chests filled with temp items, xp, cruor (abyssea AN/IS/CP) that drop from every couple mobs. A few people die, or a few go to the bathroom, and the alliance chugs along. Mobs die in less than the time it takes to cast an AM2, drop 400-500xp (after auras are up, which takes about an hour, two in a mediocre party).

If you ever come back, my group does a weekly Abyssea party and you're welcome to join.

Wow, that sounds crazy! And fun! Maybe sometime I'll come visit. S-E really shoots itself in the foot by charging a fee just to get your character back, on top of the monthly fee. That's one of the larger things stopping me from coming back. (I have the money to pay it, but I resent it -- S-E should be HAPPY to have players return, not punish them for leaving before allowing them back.)

From what I can tell, the whole purpose of FFXI is to punish the player. My brother is super stoked for FFXIV and I just wonder how he became such a masochist.

Yeah, that about sums it up. I always tell people that WoW seems to like to work with their players, while FFXI treats them like enemies. I don't get it...

"Hyur" is the new Hume? Sounds like a hick laughing! Hyur hyur hyur!

And I'd love to see one! :D

My attempt at a Thistle. Sorry it took so long, I frapsed an entire character creation video for you and then I realized I had no way to convert it down from 3.5 GB. And I got the eyes wrong :(

I understand. I'm was advertising the beta more to be fair in a "see for yourself" kind of way, since I pretty much slated it previously.

... and still no hardware mouse :P

You know, I should do more with cooking/fishing. I have them maxed on all 80s, and most 80s have nearly all recipes... Plus I enjoy fishing (and cooking!).

And yeah, cloth is one of my main money makers, though the bag market on my server is currently in the crapper. (I spent three months fighting with one seller who was actively trying to keep the prices low, and now it's flooded with a bunch of other people who think this 50% price is the usual one...)

I'm looking forward to being able to make money with JC, too! :D

It's kind of funny, I do not need more gold on WoW. I have way more than any one person could ever need or use, but I just can't stop working to make more!

I'm kind of the opposite. I should have more money than I can use, but I've been incredibly lazy. (That said I'm still the person people come to, to borrow money. 9.9 And I do have the 16k mount. Need to get the chopper!) I just don't do everything I can/should, and Cata is on the way.

I think most people are the opposite of me, and I say good for them! I keep making these darned games into a job, and that's just bad bad bad.

I tried to avoid having both mining and herbing on the same character because I could only scan for one at a time.

I think that might be changing in Cata though. Woot!

My main reason for crafting was my army of alts. They seem to have made the crafted green gear for WotLK relevant by making them as sets.

I think between dOxxx and myself we have the spectrum of crafts covered. My preferred crafts are enchanting and JC though. Consumables for the win :)

There are addons now that cover that! The one I use is called TrackingChanger, it allows you to switch between two different trackings up to every second! It takes a little getting used to, but once you do it's like having both trackings active at the same time. So handy!

And yes! That's always been the rule of crafting: Consumables! Consumables! Consumables! :D

In Cata you will indeed be able to track as many things at once as you'd like.

Date: 2010-09-01 05:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pomr.livejournal.com
In cata you'll be able to track as many things as you want -- I just hope they color code the dots, or something so you can tell which node is what type, or which thing is what -- like, Repair, or Class Trainers.

Fishing is very lucrative in a couple ways - 1) the daily CAN, though usually doesn't, yield some very nice rewards. And certain foods like Firecracker Salmon are good sellers, hell, you can sell fish feasts too and they're one of the best (arguably the best overall) foods you can use.

You might try inscription if you have an open slot, I have been enjoying it, and they do allow you to self enchant your shoulders with better than Hodir stuff. :) And you can make some interesting trinkets and off hands, but it isn't a big money maker.

JC can be awesome! My main Narukh funded himself through BC with Mining/JC, then did a brief stint of LW/JC for BiS craftables and drums, and then back to JC/Mining for a bit until Wrath when I discovered how much I loved Engineering -- omg, so fun. ENG/JC forever!

This made it hard to keep making money for a bit though, but now if I use my alt Liannyn to mine I can get mats again. Yay! And engineers can extract elements from the various clouds out there for crystallized air/earth/fire/water/life/shadow if you find the right nodes. The extractor even lets you track clouds while tracking something else. :) PLUS -- it is just damn fun and convenient! Dude. Teleporters. :) Parachutes on your cloak! Rocket boots so you can run REALLY fast for a few seconds. :)

oh yes! I do the fishing daily on up to four 80s! Depending on what it is. The WG one I only do on one (the only character without the fishing hat), but all the others I do on multiple characters, and the two Dal ones are done on all four without fail.

Yep, Haken does inscriptions! Only thing he ever uses it for is making glyphs for friends, the market to sell them is too cutthroat and time intensive even for me.

And yes! Engineering is the best! :D

[livejournal.com profile] kelen showed me a spot where you can fish WG fish without getting flagged. :) There's a series of ledges by dragon blight over a village, and if you edge close to it you can fish the water without getting flagged. :) Which I'm sure is really annoying to the PVP minded folks.

*sage nod*

I LOVE that.

Date: 2010-09-01 08:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Yeah! I used to use that spot, then I found a better one. (Or better for me, because if I missed the shot and entered WG by mistake... flagged!) There's a ledge on a cliff that makes an upside-down V, just barely wide enough to stand on. No one can jump down onto it or get to it any way other than flying in and landing. So, for instant flight form Thack, it's perfect. I bind W for fishing and E for flight form and keep my finger on W to fish, but E is less than a second away if someone tries to land and attack me!

Still, I really wish they'd drop WG from the dailies.

Nice. :)

I don't have that, though I DO have a parachute cloak! It was fun when a priest MCd my shaman and ran him off a cliff. I was fishing by the area in WG with all the plant critters, there's a little hidden(ish) pond out of sight that borders Sholazar.

Well, to make a long story short once I had fallen out of his control range I hit the parachute cloak, landed safely, swapped to PVP gear, mounted up and found the fella. Killed him too. Just once, I'm not the sort to corpse camp, that's just ignorant. I didn't /spit, /laugh, or teabag him either! :)
