A trick for making money on a RP server (WoW)

When I'm bored, I often go through the AH to look for deals. Sometimes I guess wrong and get stuck with stuff (there are glyphs that really do move for 1 silver), but often times I can flip stuff for good money.

Today I found something that would work only on RP servers. There were six Enchant 2H Weapon - Minor Impact scrolls up for 20 silver each. WoWhead had conflicting info on if it actually gave a glow or not, so I bought one and put it on my own weapon. Glow! So I snagged the other five.

Then the painful part: I joined trade and started selling them. I probably lowballed my price too much, but basically anything would be a profit.

In about twenty minutes, I had all five sold. 50 gold profit, plus now my non-RP weapon does two additional points of damage! And has a pretty glow. :P

Also, unrelated to RP servers, I flew around and bought various cooking recipes and limited quantity recipes/designs/patterns/etc. I suspect I'll get frustrated with relisting them before they actually sell, but we'll see.

...I'm not trying to make money! I'm just bored. Dandelion is nearly 85 and I'm not eager to be done.

I had the luck of having TWO BoE black leather eye patches drop on the same day.

Got $5k for one of them, and I think I lowballed the other one.

I do the same with 'rare' dresses. Got $8k for the red & green wedding hanboks the vendor in Dalaran sells, but have yet to see the formal dangui. On MG, that tends to go for 10-20k.

Mostly, RP clothes.

God, anytime I get something drop that looks like Scarlet or Blood Knight gear or, even better, skimpy on the women gear, my characters get little gold coins flashing in their eyes. :D


Also, there's a not-so-rare rare out in Elwynn around level 10 or so that drops Lithe Boots.
They're black and not chunky (looks more like black knee high stockings than boots) and usually fetch a decent amount for an easy to get item.

Since I'm actually pretty hopeful I'll be able to move my pally to MG one of these days, I'm watching the AH on the Kael'thas server where I am now for any kind of rare RP clothing. I have 5 Robes of Insight, several Noble's Monocles, wedding bands, a few other rare blue quality robes. Mostly bought for dirt cheap prices cause it's a PvE server.

The robes of insight usually go for 2-3k a piece, not sure about the others offhand.

On RP servers you can be pretty much guaranteed if it looks pretty, shiny, gaudy or 'unique' it'll sell well.

I used to keep free slots just for starting new worgen/goblins to get some starter area clothes. I had two bags full of waterlogged vests and pants (they look like "slutty pirate costumes", seriously, it looks like a black version of, seriously, look for 'adult' (as in NSFW adult) style pirate costumes and you'll have something close to the waterlogged vest/pants combo, on male AND female avatars) that all sold for 200-300 a piece.

The Gilnean *thing* robes that you get by rolling new worgen robe wearing classes also sell well, but that market is iffy.

Sometimes they go for a few hundred and sometimes it's hard to get even 10g for them.

The black and red ones sell better than the brown one.

This is true. There's an outland helm that looks like a red facemask. I won a few of them while dungeoning, they sold for around 300g each, it was pretty nice.

I just sold a red/white shield with a red fist that had really SHIT stats as an RP item for 700g. XD

Yeah, and once you get into RPing, you'll find you do the same thing if there's an awesome world drop you want as an RP item and you don't feel like holding out for luck. :D

I'd LOVE to see the schematic for an engineering pet that drops in Outland. It looks like one of those spider-tank gnome mobs from Gnomeregan. I saw it once almost a year ago for 5k, and I only had 4k. D:

I don't even remember the name of it and can't seem to find any reference to it anymore, so maybe it was removed from the game.

I mostly earn money through dumb luck and dumb people.

For the longest time I've been able to sell stacks of 10 Volatile airs I got from transmutes for over 700G - when their market value per piece was about three times less.

People like to buy stacks.

Yeah, that's what I do. Dandelion is alchemist #5, all so I can do the daily transmute on all of them. I always sell mine in stacks, they're always worth more. Not three times as much anymore, but still worth it!
