To my American ear, "bake off" sounds old and like something I wouldn't be interested in -- something my great great grandmother might have done. I'm kind of surprised they didn't make it "Great British Baking Challenge" since that would more fit our format of naming reality shows. I guess using "show" instead of "challenge" makes it sound more classy. The show airs on PBS, our public broadcasting/educational channel.
