Books and FFXI

RL/books first:

1) I just finished reading ("rereading", sort of) the Dark Tower series. I had read each book as it came out, but the first one came out about 20 years ago, so I remembered little of it. Reading the books one after the other was an amazingly great way to revisit the series. (I recall reading book 7 for the first time and not remembering who some of the earlier characters were...) The only downside was that I got more attached to the characters, which made certain things near the end a lot more painful.

I had intended to write up a long post about the series once I was done rereading it, but surprisingly few of my feelings changed from the first time I wrote about the books. The things I had liked, I liked more this time through. The things I had hated were no longer a surprise this time, so it was more of a disliking than a big hate.

The deaths near the end were almost as rough as the first time reading it. A little rougher in one case... ( ahhh, but I'll cut for spoilers, even though the series isn't new. )

The thing that almost made me hate the whole series (King using himself as a character in the books) still did not work for me at all, but I didn't hate it with the burning passion of my first reading. I still think it was a bad idea, but hey, it's his book.

Loved the ending just as much as I had the first time I read it. :)

Okay, oops, no time for book #2! On to...

FFXI!

Even though I didn't want to, I went out and XPed RDM. (I really, really wanted to XP NIN, but I had said I was going to do RDM, and RDM needs XP, so I stuck to my guns.) Amazingly I had to wait a whole half-hour for an invite! Gasp! Dismay! (Heh.)

Unfortunately the party sucked pretty badly. The PLD didn't voke and cast almost nothing. (Lord knows why I kept her in the refresh cycle...) They couldn't figure out voking, setting up SATA, or finding a SC. A party level 62-63. It was a Dunes-level quality. Unsurprisingly, the XP sucked. 2K/hour, tops. Even worse, it ended in a death for me. Grrrr grrrrr grrrr grrr. That's my second or third death on RDM. Highly annoying.

After that Beanie and Nif helped me get the larva thingie for the RDM dagger I want! Yay! We'll do the NM fight on Sunday, while doing AF3 foo.

I really, really want to level NIN, and fast. Darned job is eating my brain. I liked RDM better than DRK because it took more attention, and I like NIN better than RDM for the very same reason.

I finally got the last weapon upgrade for my NPC.

Grrrr. I'll never get the weapon back to sell, all that money totally gone. In two sales AH price went from 500K -> 600K -> 700K, and days between each sale when none were available. Sheesh. :/ (And I didn't even take him out tonight to see what it looked like. :( No time!)

And lastly, for desant_chan: I told you Ose was evil! I told you! While Beanie, Nif, and I were in Temple Ugh, he showed up to stalk us! Watch out behind you, Beanie!!
