I love random LJ image sites (like this one), sites that pull the latest 100, 200, 500, whatever images posted on LJ. So when
isiscolo linked to the comm
iconscraper, I just had to check it out. Same basic idea as the random LJ images, but it only grabs images that meet the LJ size rules for an icon.
iconscraper taught me one big things: The vast, vast, vast majority of icons used on LJ suck. Poorly made, unoriginal, ugly. I looked through a few thousand icons posted in the last couple days, and found a grand total of two that I liked.
And then there was this one:

*rolls and dies* So wrong, so funny. It made it worth looking through thousands of icons to find that one.
Edit: Hey,
loneguardian, you'll like this one! And more really cute ones here. (I think that's the red haired guy you like, right?)

I've been meaning to post about anime lately (blame FFXI if at any point I type that as 'anima'). If work hadn't gone crazy and taken most of my free time over the past week, the subject line of this post would have been "Angelic Layer, the new Wolf's Rain". But work saved me from that!
I watched about 14 eps of Angelic Layer, which is kind of strange since I didn't much like the series at all. However, like Wolf's Rain, the idea had potential so I stuck with it (too bad that, unlike Wolf's Rain, the quality of the artwork/music wasn't all that hot). I really liked the idea behind the series, and I liked all the different sorts of dolls they came up with, but oh my god, the series was so totally not the kind I like. "Cute" anime makes me twitch. It seems fluffy and meaningless to me. I like dark stuff, stuff with a point. (It's possible that Angelic Layer had some sort of message or moral and I just didn't get to it, but it would surprise me if so.) Also, characters acting unrealistic (like that fellow in the lab coat who wiggled all the time) make me want to kill things. Usually those characters.
Luckily I've lost the note that said exactly which ep and how far into it I was, and it's not worth skimming to find out.
In relatedanima anime news, you can find Whistle! and Dear Boys on youtube.com! I really really want to rewatch both, especially Whistle!, but right now I'm having time-issues.

FFXI: I got the download all done over lunchtime! Yay! If the downtime isn't extended, hopefully we can still do our Celery runs tonight! (But duh on me, I couldn't get packed and ready for it over lunchtime as I had been planning. I'll have to do it tonight!)
I remember how excited I had been about previous updates, but once again there's nothing really big for me in this one. (I think this is the third update with nothing that really impacts me much.)
-The /SAM thing counts as "good" I guess, but I have to level it now.
-The increased in chocobo stats will be good, but what are these chocobos other than toys/time wasters (unless Bore turns out to be more useful to chocobo digging than Burrow -- not holding my breath).
-The call on /tells is about the most useful thing, and I would have paid a hell of a lot of money to have had that a year ago. (Seeking 8+ hours on DRK, afraid even to run to the bathroom in fear of missing my once-a-week party invite.)
-The storeable fireworks Yukata is about fricking time. I was about to drop them for space.
I know the Absorb-TP "nerf" just brings it back to how I was playing it anyway, but still it just makes me so sad. Does DRK get so much love that anything about it needs to be reduced? And don't tell me that absorbing more TP than it has doesn't make sense -- if you're going to "fix" this, fix drain as well. I can drain for a hell of a lot more HP than a mob has. (Get yourself down a couple hundred HP, then cast drain on some nearly dead newbie zone mob.)
Maybe there will be some interesting new thing to craft. And the Halloween hats look cute. Mostly I'm pretty darned "meh" about the whole update though.

EDIT: Ha ha ha. If you keep a blog, you're going to hell! See you all there~!
"Should teenagers and others in the Church express themselves to the world through blogs? Because of the obvious dangers; the clear biblical principles that apply; the fact that it gives one a voice; that it is almost always idle words; that teens often do not think before they do; that it is acting out of boredom; and it is filled with appearances of evil -- blogging is simply not to be done in the Church. It should be clear that it is unnecessary and in fact dangerous on many levels.
Let me emphasize that no one -- including adults -- should have a blog or personal website (unless it is for legitimate business purposes)."
