Black Mirror
Feb. 11th, 2016 07:53 pmI don't think I've ever recced a TV series based on one single episode before, but wow. Someone elsewhere on LJ described Black Mirror as an updated version of Twilight Zone. Wiki describes it as "speculative fiction with dark and sometimes satirical themes which examine modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies".
In this first episode, a British princess is kidnapped, and the captor has an odd and disturbing demand...
The demand is for the Prime Minister to have sex with a pig, and that the act be broadcast live on every TV channel. /end spoiler
The hour follows all the happenings around that, how much the media impacts things, how public opinion changes, etc. It's fascinating in a sick, dark, disturbing way. I can't stop thinking about it.
The one downside to this series is that, even though it has two seasons, it has only a total of seven episodes. Each season has three eps, plus there's a Christmas special (I can only imagine what that might be like...).
It's currently available on Netflix.
Edit: Episode 2 is amazing too, in a totally different way. So messed up and disturbing and just amazing. I love this series!
