When in Rome... (TV rec)

Thanks to a rec from [livejournal.com profile] fealubryne, I decided to check out HBO's Rome. (Added bonus: Since I get HBO at home, I didn't feel the least bit guilty for downloading it!)

Wow. I've only watched two eps so far, but I'm in love. It's the best thing when you know, just based on your first viewing of the opening credits, that you'll love the show. :D

The characters are all either so good looking (though not in movie star ways, normal good looking) or just really unique looking (which is just as good!). The accents are oh so yummy. I love the whole style of looks/hair/costume/settings as well.

The story has been really good so far (I wonder how accurate it is to history?), but even if it wasn't I could just happily watch it to see the actors, the sets/backgrounds, the horses, etc.

There's a darned large helping of sex (all het so far), and not overly too much blood (just one scene was gory enough for me to look away, but I'm not good with operation-like gore, so it might have been just me). There's lots of killing and fighting, but it doesn't seem over the top to me.

So if you're looking for a new series, check it out! It's only in its second season now, so it won't be too hard to catch up.
