WoW: Productive and not

Sometimes I fail to hold myself to my 'WoW is not FFXI work' rule. Deciding that I wanted my third purple 60 piece, I pushed myself in PvP today. 10 hours of it, with only a half-hour break to run out and get food. *is dead* x.x Happily, I got the honor points I needed! ...annoyingly, I discovered that half the set needs AV marks of honor instead of AB. ~.~ Luckily there's still one piece left that needs AB marks, so I can work on that... just not get it today, no matter how hard I pushed myself.

AB marks:
Chest -- 13,770 honor points needed

AV:
Head: 13,005 HP
Hands: 8,415 HP

Have: Shoulders and boots (8,415 HP each/AB marks)

Anyway, I learned something new about AB today, something I had suspected but never really paid attention to: Horde wins it a hell of a lot more than Alliance does. I figured it out because this morning we lost again and again and again and it pissed me off endlessly. Some were "fair" losses, but too many were "4 horde vs 15 alliance" where we were so badly overpowered that they just stand around in the GY and killed us as we rezzed. That was the first time I've really, really been pissed at PvPing (not counting my often-anger at idiots obsessed with capturing the one stupid base).

After that period of losses, we won the rest of the day through. Not even generally close wins, easy ones. About eight hours of nothing but wins, each match taking 15-20 minutes. It's a wonder the Alliance keep trying, I don't know if I would with endless losses like that.

Hit rogue 49 today. Did my usual skilling to get weapons and defense capped. Skilled unhanded to cap because I'm tired of people doing skills that remove my weapons and therefore making me toothless.

Two more levels until wolf. zzzz Once I get it (and the rest of my 60 pieces) I might take a break. I want to try engineering and mining (I've done neither before). Or maybe go to 60 so I can wear the pieces I've been getting...

No RP tonight, blah. Didn't feel like searching out random RP, usual RP people tied up elsewhere.

Engineering is awesome fun. =)

I think it is the most fun of all the professions. =) One example? You make these teleport devices if you're specialized in gnomish engineering -- the teleport you to Gadgetzan(in Tanaris) or the other one sends you to Toshley Station (in Blade's Edge Mountains). They're called 'Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan' or 'Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley Station'. The thing is that they often malfunction and do fun things like drop you from a massive height, or shrink you for an hour, or even change your race (only a costume) for an hour! So fun. =)

if you're specialized in gnomish engineering

I wanted to post about that, but I think only you and Nai on my flist do engineering! Is either gnome or goblin better than the other? Do most people take one or the other? Or do one first and then the other?

Goblin = Explodies.
Gnome = Quirky.

Nai went goblin just for the asproding. Gnome is more fun just to play with.

Rrrr, okay, thanks!

Hey, I'm an engineer! How I decided was looking at WoWWiki's list of what each specialization had and I vaguely thought I liked how gnome sounded better.

Are you just wanting to do it to try it out? Or are you wanting a profession to make money? If you want to make money, engineering is not it. It has a bunch of interesting, sometimes very useful stuff (I have a portable mailbox, for example), but it's only usable by either other engineers (who will just make it for themselves) or they're bind on equip. The only thing that really sells is the high level ammo and arrows, and Blizzard lowered the mat reqs so much with 3.2 that the price has plummeted. Not worth it. I seem to have good luck at picking the professions that are terrible at making money. My priest has inscription and that's turned out to be a bust too (but hey, shoulder enchants).

Oooh, I had no idea you did too! Yay!

Or are you wanting a profession to make money? If you want to make money, engineering is not it.

Is there a non-gathering profession that makes money? I've long since learned that one doesn't take up crafting to make money (unless things are different in WoW...). I'm doing it for the cool stuff they can make (goggles!) and because I've heard people say it's a hard thing to level. Hard = good!

I think some of the other professions can make money at high levels, like tailoring, jewelcrafting, and alchemy. Just look at how much their stuff sells for, and in the case of jewelcrafting and alchemy, if you're raiding, you have to buy from them all the time. I hear gathering professions are best for money overall, but I think it's possible to make money with others (as opposed to engineering, which is mostly lose, lose, lose unless you have friends willing to help you out with the mats from other professions that are needed). Thankfully, they did add some nice stuff to 3.2, so it once again has just enough that I've stopped thinking about changing it, at least for now. I'm probably going to drop mining at some point to level tailoring so I can get the flying carpets, then switch back. I won't be able to use them then, but they'll still be in my mount list and count towards my blue dragonhawk. :)

Oooh, that's a good idea!

Is JC considered the hardest or most expensive profession to skill? If so, maybe that'll be the second one on my hunter... (Skinning and herbs are great while XPing, not so much when you never leave town anymore.)

[identity profile] firebyrd.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
People say it's a pain to level, but my only JC is at the 70-100 range (can't remember where I stopped), so I'm too early to really tell. The biggest pain I can see thus far is that you have to have both raw ore and smelted bars of stuff, which is a particular annoyance for me since I'm being fed mats from another character rather than having mining on myself.

ETA: I don't think any profession is half as hard as the FFXI crafts, so take that as you will. The high level stuff just requires lots of expensive mats, including stuff you can't farm on your own, so it takes a while. Or you have something not as expensive available, but it's green, so you can make dozens without gaining a single skill point. I made and sold soooo many gnomish army knives to finish up engineering.

Yeah, I'm going to have one character with mining feeding both himself for JC (I think) and my rogue for engineering, so I'll be experiencing something like that.

Yeah, unfortunately I knew all that already. Unfortunately? Fortunately? Whichever! Oh well! It'll still kill time and keep me occupied. :D

... Ha ha! That sounds great! :D I dropped skinning and picked it up last night. I'm expecting to start skilling by the weekend!
