When did WoW decide to become FFXI?

I don't follow WoW news as closely as I might, so if this is old news, I apologize.

I thought they were dropping the guild stuff? Guild achievements, guild XP, guild leveling, all that stuff. I'm really sorry to see that, with all my alts in my own personal guild, I'm going to be missing out on a heck of a lot of stuff. Not only that, anyone in a small guild will be missing out. It's going to boil down to: the bigger the guild you're in, the better stuff you'll get.

Dark Phoenix Hatchling? Raise 55 reputations to Exalted. Good luck doing that solo!

Armadillo Pup pet? Kill 50,000 critters.

New guild bank tabs -- guild-based achievements. Mounts, recipes, so much new stuff... all based on your guild.

What the heck happened to WoW being a solo-friendly game? No, you don't NEED a pet or a recipe or whatever, but it should be accessible to us less-social folks, too.

I wonder if guilds will start to sell the pets? Let you join up long enough for them to be mailed to you... Or if it'll even work that way. If it's only mailed to people who are a member at the time the 50,000th critter is killed, wouldn't that stop people from joining that guild in the future?

(One day I shall stop talking about FFXI. I feel like one of those people who got out of a bad relationship and now Cannot Stop Talking About That Person. And no worries, this doesn't apply to anyone who reads my LJ!

...today seems to be my day for LJ disclaimers.)

Edit: How sad is this! There's talk about the next pre-Cata event (it's on the PTR now), I'm sitting here all worried WHAT IF IT HAPPENS DURING MY WEEK'S VACATION?! ARG! *snickers* I'm so silly.
