It's discrimination if you don't want cancer...

The county I live in is going to start to license stores that want to sell tobacco. $400 for the license, then $200 per year after that. The funds will be used to help keep minors from having access to tobacco.

The morning news did interviews with stores selling cigarettes. One said "This is discrimination! We're a minority! This is a hate crime!"

Persecution, ur doin it wrong.

Also, a small MMO note. I realized something, WoW is mirroring FFXI when it comes to expansions. Both had their best one (FFXI's ToAU, WoW's WotLK), followed by one that changed the world (WotG, Cata). FFXI's went back in time to a war-destroyed world, WoW's went forward in time to a dragon-destroyed world.

I bet I was the only player sad to see the new login screen this morning. Come back, Arthas! You're much sexier than a silly dragon with an ugly jaw and an annoying voice!

It's really hard to take Deathwing seriously as a bad guy. He looks silly. He sounds like a whiny kid. Maybe once we kill him, the Lich King can raise him as a cool frost wyrm. :P

How can you call any WoW character whiny after Illidan whined all the way through the TBC cinematic? :D Illidan is the end-all-be-all of whiny, everyone else is just a little melodramatic in comparison.

Deathwing is just a little emo. You'd be emo too if your jaw fell off, I bet!

Also, seconding the "Syndragosa is so freaking obnoxious" statements. She makes you want to kill her just by talking, which I guess is good, 'cause that's why you're there after all.

I have a good excuse! TBC was mostly before my time. :D I played a little then, but just a month once a year or so -- WoW was my MMO vacation spot when FFXI got to be too much.

Deathwing is just a little emo. You'd be emo too if your jaw fell off, I bet!

The whole opening video bugged me. So there's this big dragon, getting armor put onto himself. Okay, it hurts. And so he's whining about it hurting and his pain is going to destroy the world and blah blah blah. WELL, MISTER DRAGON, HOW ABOUT YOU DON'T GET THE ARMOR PUT ON, THEN IT WON'T HURT! Stupid dragon.

A man goes to the doctor. "Doctor! Doctor! It hurts when I do this!" Man punches himself in the face.

Doctor says, "Well, stop doing that!"

[identity profile] sailor-arashi.livejournal.com 2010-11-23 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's all in the backstory. Without the armor he is unable to hold physical form or something like that. Plus he's totally a cutter. He's basically the god-avatar of the planet's physical existence, which is why him being in pain causes earthquakes and stuff. The other Dragon Aspects messed him up bad in the backstory, so he has to have mystic armor bolted to him to contain his crazy-awesome powers.

Oh huh! Okay, then there's reason for it, good!

Where'd you read this backstory? From the Cata book?

The novels have some good info, as does Warcraft II, but if you want it all in one condensed place...

Yeah! That :D

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-11-23 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo, thanks! I didn't read the book (I hate her writing style), so it's good that I can get the info elsewhere.

[identity profile] sailor-arashi.livejournal.com 2010-11-23 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mostly from the novel series (I forget which ones) and the WoW Wiki articles on him which can list their sources better than I could :)

That's not true, the doctor says, "Take 4 of these and call me in the morning" and he prescribes the strongest pain killers he has which cost $150 a pill.

Ha! Point!

*pops in randomly off friendslists* Deathwing has to wear the armor due to the power-up he got from the Demon Soul. Without it, the power he absorbed will /literally/ rip him apart. As they're putting on the metal plates you can see the breaks beneath it they're welding shut.

His entire chest is a good view of what this is and what it's doing. Without the emo armor and cutting he'd more or less blow up and then die. I wonder if part of is raid is going to be prying the plates off and watching him tear apart from within.

Howdy friendslist person!

That's a good reason to have armor! Thanks for the info. :)

[identity profile] pomr.livejournal.com 2010-11-23 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be an interesting mechanic. :)

I was expecting something like the Kologarn fight in Ulduar -- the dragon is massive beyond belief, I pictured different groups from a raid attacking different parts of his body, but attacking the plates would be even better.

Makes sense too.

I see more of a, we defeat deathwing, deathwing refuses to accept defeat and decides to instead rip his own armor off to explode and kill us all, some story character sacrifices him/herself to prevent the explosion.

[identity profile] pomr.livejournal.com 2010-11-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Which now begs the question -- when we (eventually) get to fight him, how exactly are they going to deal with the scale issues (no, not his scaly hide!)?

1) Make us all giants by some means?
2) Have us all piloting some (more than likely crap implementation of a) vehicle? As in crewing a MASSIVE gunship?
3) Have us shrink him somehow?

I mean -- the pictures show his head is bigger than a castle, how exactly do you fight that in game? We'd be like ants, he wouldn't fit in the screen. I have this absurd image of pounding on one of his clawtips for the whole fight, with nothing else to see but ginormous paw!

That was asked at Blizzcon and the devs were like...uh...we're still figuring that out. But it's going to be cool when we think of something!
