Another post about food!

Blame [livejournal.com profile] prettyredeyes for two posts in one night. :P I was editing a photo for a reply to her comment, and came upon other photos I had taken to LJ post.

The first needs a bit of backstory: I almost never had Easter candy when I was growing up. My father had problems and he canceled holidays, vacations, and birthdays as punishment for the most minor of things. Didn't clean your room? Trip to Disney World is off. Left your shoes in the hallway? Christmas is canceled this year. One Easter he filled his car trunk with chocolate for my sister and I -- we were dying for it, having so rarely had Easter candy in the past. Then we did something minor wrong, so he gave it all away to neighborhood kids instead.

So, since growing up, I buy a piece or two of Easter candy for myself now. One year I bought one of those big baskets with toys and candy in it. It may have been a rip-off for the price, but I had never had one before and it was such a wonderful thing. This year I went to the store a few days before Easter (missing the discount a couple days later, I know). I scanned the shelf to see what I wanted, then I saw it. Or rather, what it was holding...

Is that why you look so sly, Miss Rabbit? Because of what you're holding? (I know that's supposed to be an egg, but the pink band on top makes it look like something totally different...)

It was very, very yummy. It's surprising how good that cheap candy can taste.

Photo #2 is less fun. Now and then I spot a small bug in my apartment. They're always crawling on a wall, and they're tiny (smaller than the point of a pencil). They look like a little black dot. They move really slowly, just crawling along. Watching one, I realized my camera takes good pictures of tiny things, and it saves it as such a large file that it gets great details even on little things. So I took a picture of the bug. Now I wish I hadn't.

What in the world kind of bug is that?! D: Now I'll never see it as a little black dot! I worried it was a tick (even so small), but it doesn't seem to match the images on Google. At least it seems harmless...

:( How traumatic! That's not discipline, that's flat out bullying.

Wow, that is terrible! "Problems" is putting it mildly. Hearing that makes my mommy hackles go up. Must save baby Thistle!!!!

I always say living well is the best revenge. I am glad that you are free of that now and can buy as much Easter candy as you want. *hugs*

My Mom is the sweetest person on the planet, but she had a rather misguided notion that the little geniuses she was raising did not need toys. Growing up we did not have holiday candy and only got books for birthdays. This probably explains why my sister and I have rather impressive doll collections now!

After extensive (See: 5 minutes) of google searches the closest I could find is something called a "Varied Carpet Beetle". I'm obviously not an expert on these things but it seems to be the closest I could find.

Someone else might know for sure just based on the pictures but the size and, patterns, and relative body shape seem to match.

Speaking as someone that had a somewhat less difficult childhood (or difficult for different reasons), I always try to remember that it is never too late to have a happy childhood.

I also want to go back in time and be nice to tiny Thistle. D:

But yes, that is the best thing about being grown, every year I buy AS MANY RUSSELL STOVER EGGS AS I WANT, and I save them until the time is right AND THEN I EAT ALL OF THEM.

And it is glorious until the sugar crash. That is not so great.

That doesn't look like a "Miss" Rabbit to me. That looks like a suspiciously happy "Mr" Rabbit.
