ESPN3 + Comcast = YAY

US is playing Germany at 9 AM our time today (RIGHT NOW!). It was killing me that of course I'd be at work, but thanks to ESPN3/Comcast, I can watch it at my desk! :D I suspect this is going to be one good game! Made even better by watching it at work.

The picture is even sharper than it is at home, which is especially nice.

I wish World Cup happened more than once every four years -- make it every year!

Now to try to get work done at the same time...

Edit: That was such a great game. US lost by 1, but that's perfectly fine. Not only is it much better than we should have done against Germany, but due to soccer-math we advance out of the "Group of Death" (through bad luck of the draw, the US was matched against some of the best teams in the world). No one, no one!, expected US to make it out of that group, but we did it.

I don't usually care about sports, so this is an odd feeling to be so proud of something I had no involvement in at all.

Good thing there's the european Cup every two years, although I suppose that's not that interesting to you..;)

So it's half past nine in the morning where you are..I never get it right with those time zones..it's halpf past six pm here.

I like all football, so I happily watch that when it's on TV, too. :)

Yep, the game started at 9 AM and it's 10:40 now. Last minutes and the feed keeps crapping out, ARG!

NY's governor has given state employees a two-hour lunch break for this match.

Ha! That's great! :D

The US has reason to be proud! *thumbs up*

We did score a goal, but you guys gave us a run for our money. LOL

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2014-06-26 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Losing only one goal against Germany is pretty darned good! They rock, I figured they'd hand us our asses. :D

Oh no, no - nobody here underestimated the US team! :)

Here in America, no one expected us to do well at all. It's interesting to see how other countries view it! I have a Portuguese friend who is rather pissed at America right now. :D

Ahaha! I've posted my thoughts on the World Cup, and then I saw your post. I'm, um, glad you're enjoying it :-)

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2014-06-26 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh ho ho! Must have been since I checked my friends list last. *goes to look*

Oops! Sorry. But I can totally understand how you feel -- I hate the big sports events in this country, too. Soccer/football is generally hard to find here, so I can enjoy it without the "zombie invasion". :)

It's the peer pressure that pisses me off. Back in the days before Germany hosted the World Cup (I remember them well), there were people who liked football and watched it and people who didn't really care. Now, everyone is expected to care. On the nights when Germany plays, you can't walk into town without getting harassed by painted-faced strangers: a drunken youth attempted to hug me last week when I walked past him. It's like all rules that society has for a reason are off just because some guys kick a ball around!

Um, sorry about this, but I can't talk about football without going off on a rant :-)

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2014-06-26 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to apologize! It's the same way around here with the Superbowl and the "World" Series. (While I don't like baseball, it pisses me off that an American sports thing is called "World", but that's a whole different rant.)

[identity profile] kamalloy.livejournal.com 2014-06-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, given that there are a fair amount of baseball players from other countries now, it's at least a more accurate name than it used to be.

Very true! :)
