Current book: Imperium Lupi

I very, very, very rarely read Furry novels. They're almost always poorly written, full of not just typos and misspellings, but bad plots, too. Imperium Lupi got good reviews though, even from non-Furry readers, so I decided to give it a try.

Even just a couple pages in I liked it, so as I often do when I like a book, I googled the author to see if I could find out more about him and the book.

I probably shouldn't have done that with a Furry book. I have no issues with Furry people, that's not the problem here. It's the art of the characters he posted.

All those done by the author himself. Now I can't read the story without picturing the characters with horrible balloon-muscles.

It's his book and his characters, he can have them look however he wants. I just wish I hadn't seen it, because now I can picture nothing else.

Also, I'm not sure if it's a Furry thing or not, but he calls female animals "wolfess" and "catess" and such. Okay, Google tells me that is probably a Furry thing.

How can you have such muscle definition when you are covered with fur?!

Haha good point. Looks kind of like the muscles are pushing out through the fur, I guess?

I find this fascinating! I had only vaguely read about furry culture, but this is seems quite promising. I looked into it and now I added it to my Want to read shelf on Goodreads, haha.

I hope you enjoy it! I am liking the story a lot, even with those two issues I mentioned.

Never read anything Furry. But I've had that experience before- seeing the author's artwork and it ruined the image I had formed in my own mind. It happens if I see a film before reading the book, too. Always see the actors afterwards, even if the author's description is quite different.

Yeah, same with movies/actors!

Now that you mention it, this has happened with other books, too. Author drew or used a photo of some actor as a reference, and it didn't at all match what I had in mind.

I guess it's really safer to leave it to your readers, if you're a writer.
