PSA: [livejournal.com profile] challenge100

Contained below: Drabble writing group, mysterious pineapple

--

For a while now, both on LJ and off, I've been hearing some grumping about current drabble-writing communities. If you're looking for a new or an additional one, [livejournal.com profile] challenge100 seems like a nice group. It's still small enough (under 100 users) not to be spammy, but more importantly: all their challenges are interesting and seem well thought out.

[livejournal.com profile] challenge100 is open to any fandom, but it looks like HP is getting the lion's share of attention (so you HP-only folks shouldn't be uncomfortable there).

I've been really slacking off on writing, so I've joined up there myself and intend to try to write on a weekly basis. (Hey, it's just a drabble, right? Only 100 words?) I'm a little nervous about writing for the new fandoms I've entered (eek! I don't know the characters well enough to write for them! It took me months of reading and lurking before I'd write about even the most minor of HP characters!), but I'm going to give it a try.

I think pineapple isn't really a fruit. I don't believe it's really a food or even of this Earth. Sound far-fetched? It's not! Pineapple is the sweetest thing I have ever tasted. It's tons sweeter than chocolate or cookies or candy or anything else... so how does it have only ~80 calories a cup? If you had a cup of sugar or a cup of chocolate or a cup of anything else not nearly as sweet as it, it'd be a lot more than 80 calories!

If only it didn't make my mouth and lips burn after eating it, I'd eat nothing but pineapple for the rest of my life. Mmm. Yay, my yummy alien fruit!

Pineapple (like other fruits) may taste sweeter because they *probably* (I haven't actually checked this) are sweetened by fructose, rather than sucrose like chocolate, cookies, or candy. Fructose (fruit sugar) tastes much sweeter than sucrose.

Oh, interesting. I thought all sugars would taste the same amount of sweet. I guess it makes more sense that they differ.

Maybe sweeter than any chocolate you've had, but speaking as someone with confectioner's training, it is quite possible to make a candy so sweet that God Himself would go diabetic.

Well, now I know what to put on my Christmas list!

Mmm.

How strange. You'd think with the hp100 list already existing this current one would have less HP stuff on it.

Some people aren't really happy with HP100, and I suppose some people probably want more than one place to write? Or maybe some haven't heard of HP100?
