Grrr, where's my book?

C'mon, Amazon and UPS, hurry! Seems like all of my flist has it (or has finished it!) already, and I want my copy, too. *sniffle*

I tried to do some FFXI stuff this morning, but it didn't go overly well. Bored. I tried to dig (did two runs, 30 stacks each), but was bored out of my mind. Didn't feel like farming, nothing was going on on LS, so... logged off.

(The one exception to "didn't go overly well" was that I got the last piece of my RSE this morning. I had to get up at 7 AM to do it, but the chest was in the very first place I looked, so I got it in seconds. Too bad I can't go back to sleep once I'm awake! Wish I was able to nap...)

This G4 channel is doing a special on WoW, and it's made me peer so much. I don't get it at all, and the graphics still make me want to stab my eyes out with a fork, but there are a couple interesting looking things. I like that people can ride different things (like tigers and horses and stuff). It's depressing that everyone rides the exact same model chocobo in FFXI (other than size shifting for races). Maybe one day S-E will introduce something like chocobo breeding, so maybe there could be at least some color shifting or something... (Edit: Ha ha, G4 is recommending Alla as a good WoW site.)

Bah. Where's my book?

That's another way our opinions differ. I love the graphics of WoW. Sure, they're not realistic at all, but how realistic is a world with orcs and elves anyway? Besides, it allows for a constantly streaming world with little or no lag in most cases. The only times it lags is in a major city's auction house, since literally -everybody- is there.

I couldn't stand the zone lines in FFXI. And the constant annoyance of dying. I made it to level 9 BLM and gave up. Cancelled my account after only one subscription charge.

There are no zonelines in WoW? Huh! Sometimes zonelines are really darned handy (you can keep from dying if a monster is chasing you and you can cross one), but yeah, other times they can be a little annoying.

BLM is the second hardest job to solo, and at level 9 you were almost to the point where it would have become tons easier (BLM and WHM really need to level in parties, and you were nearly to that point).

Sorry you didn't enjoy FFXI more! :)

In WoW, almost every monster will give up chasing you after a certain distance and run back to its start point, but if you're not careful, you can run into other monsters. That can be fun. >.<

Heh, maybe I'd have enjoyed FFXI if any of my friends played. As it is, they don't. And just joining some random LS for the sake of having one just doesn't appeal to me.

Perhaps you can explain to me how the missions work? I remember doing the first one somehow, but I forgot what I had to do for the second, and the person I got it from didn't tell me again, and the information in my log was sorely lacking. That was a bit irritating, since it meant that everything I did after that point was grinding, and I hate grinding.

Oh, that'd be handy! In FFXI they can literally chase you from one end of the zone to the other. There are a few rare exceptions to this: Some mobs track by scent, so if you cross water enough, they could lose you.

Heh, maybe I'd have enjoyed FFXI if any of my friends played.

In FFXI, friends make ALL the difference. I doubt I'd still be playing if I didn't have good friends there.

Perhaps you can explain to me how the missions work?

Missions? Or quests? There are very few missions, and the point of them is to raise your rank. You can get pretty good info on those in-game (just talk to the gate guard again). Quests are the more common one, and if you don't listen (or make notes or whatever) the first time, you could be out of luck. Sometimes the NPCs will tell it to you again, but often not. (I just look up quests online beforehand. To me, that's the eaiser way to do it.)

The quest and mission logs really aren't that helpful in general, nope. Mission is sometimes a little more helpful, but not too much.

#1 reason you won't see any real huge improvements to FFXI aside from new zones: The limitation of a PS2. Alas, FFXI was designed for the PS2 and so it can't have as many cool features as some other MMOs simply because of lack of memory. Computers can handle a lot more variety at once than a PS2 can, but unfortunately the game was -not- designed for a PC userbase. ; ;

Bah, yeah. Every time I wish for something new (More Hair Color Choices, Please!!!) we run up against that. Bah!

Check out Zubis' post, that pretty much covers it. X3 (And OMG that rendering of Sarutabaruta *_* I want PC graphics damnit.)

There must be an inside joke. Alla being something like alakazam.org, right? It's an excellent site, and I use it all the time. Does it have incredibly inaccurate FFXI info or something, hence the "Ha ha"?

Seriously, the reason the graphics are so bad to you is probably because they're on the lowest setting. You can bump up the terrain detail and stuff... but yeah, if it's the "cartoon" look that's getting you, then whadevah. ;)

Tauren get to ride a kodo! It kind of stinks because while trolls, Forsaken, and orcs all get to ride each others mounts (that sounded so gay), tauren can only ride kodos, mostly because the raptors and stuff would break their necks if a tauren tried to sit on it. ;)

Yes, I almost said "if a tauren tried to mount it". :P

If you read it on the FFXI forums there, there's a 99.99999999% chance it's wrong. If you read it in the "official" information, there's only a 99.99999% chance it's wrong. (Okay, it's not quite that bad, but it is really really bad.) Alla has gotten me killed many times...

Eh, what's a kodos? :)

Yes, I almost said "if a tauren tried to mount it". :P

Knowing what your character looks like, that images scares me. Lots. :)

Eww, don't watch G4 channel, those crappy actors hosting the shows and my little brother's obsession with watching them 24/7 is what ultimately drove me out of my parent's house. -_-;

I remember waiting all freaking day back when Order of the Phoenix was released, I'd also ordered through Amazon, and UPS didn't get it to my house until like 5 or 6 in the evening. =/

Yeah, usually I don't watch G4, but Tivo decided there was something on the channel I would like, and I never switched the channel after it.

Gah, sucky!
