A post about non-important things (RL)

I keep almost-posting about California trying to get the death penalty going again. I could also post about the heat (thermometers in southern CA broke when they hit 113, and it's only 10 degrees cooler up here in the north). But I'm not in the mood to write about heavy subjects.

So, instead have a cool picture I found! Naked, non-perfect men dancing. In case "naked" wasn't enough of a clue, it's NWS. It's such an interesting picture, the men have such character, I can't stop looking at it.

It came from [livejournal.com profile] no_standart_ero, which is NWS as a whole (it's a wonderful Russian comm about non-standard erotic photographs).

If I wasn't at school, I would probably click that link...

I am a glutton for punishment apparently ; ;

It's not punishment! It's a nice picture. :) Naked men, yes. Non-perfect bodies. But it's not like it's tubgirl or something! I wouldn't do that to you! ...okay, yes, I would, but in this case I'm not! Trust me~!

TOO FUNNY! You, sir, have been reposted! :D

Is it strange that the one thing my eye keeps being drawn to are their socks and shoes? They're so damn bright compared to everything else in the picture!

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! It kind of improves the picture though, I think... Makes it... less like it was intended to be porn-ish?

Cute picture; you guys got shitty thermometers, though. :)

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I did think that was kind of odd. The all time high in someplace near them was 133. Have we gotten worse quality thermometers since then? Do they expect it to never get that hot again?

Well, there is no earthly reason why anyone would assume downtown LA would ever hit 113, just as there is absolutely no reason why anyone would assume Santa Barbara would ever hit 133. (Santa Barbara generally has mild winters and cool summers—it's a pretty nice place to live.) That and I suppose equipment malfunction becomes more likely in extreme temperatures?

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I had no idea Santa Barbara was cool! I just generally think of Southern CA as "hot".

downtown LA would ever hit 113,

Huh, I would have thought it was 100+ all summer! (I've never been to LA or anywhere down there, San Jose is about as far south as I've been.)

[identity profile] quistie.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Southern CA is generally mild, actually, unless you are one of the unfortunate souls who live in the valley. I think Monday was our first triple-digit day this year—the summer had been unexpectedly cool.

Being about two hours away (120 miles), Santa Barbara is more central than southern CA. Most of the time, it's probably a bit cooler than LA. (I went to school there, so I know SB pretty well.)

Huh! That's good to know! One day I'll get down there for a visit. I used to be dying to go see the San Diego Zoo, but that was back when they walked lions and tigers and stuff around the park. I still sort of want to go, but not with the driving need anymore.

Its been miserably hot here in the southeast all summer. Then suddenly, it is fall. Overnight, temperatures drop to the low 70s and have stayed there.

Shame you're not going into Death Penalty discussions...I'm always torn on the issue. Practical me supports, Idealist me rebukes. I'm this way with many issues - economics, many social issues, etc. When asked "Do you support X?" I always have to ask "With what goal in mind?"

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I might post about it eventually, but I've been posting a lot lately and I generally try to keep things lighter. I suspect people like funny links and music better than serious stuff like me ranting about the death penalty.

I'm not torn at all. I'm fully against it. Two wrongs do not make a right. I in no way feel bad for the people facing the death penalty, they should be in prison and away from society for the rest of their lives. If possible, I'd have them doing some sort of hard labor in prison and no access to TV, books, music, other people, all that. No enjoyment.

However, to kill these people makes us as bad as them. ...well, not "as bad as", but it's making us do the same crime that we're killing them for.

That's the short version of it!

[identity profile] voidmagus.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the view Idealist me takes. The moment 1 innocent person is subjected to capital punishment, everyone is a murderer. And thereby potentially subject to the death penalty.

Trouble is, in the relatively short time I've been on earth, I've come across people who should not be allowed to live. One case in particular, I came into conflict with in college. Allowing him to survive guarantees suffering and worse any woman who caught his eye. In a college town with ample supply of attractive collegiates...One of whom was my girlfriend of 3 years. Police involvement resolved nothing, even with DNA, fingerprints, and witnesses. His father was a pricey lawyer. The case never even saw the inside of a courtroom. Sounds like an episode of Dexter, neh? Idealist me won in the end, and noone died. Though I did sever his ability to ever hunt women again. But I still wonder, to this day, is that any better than capital punishment?

So yea, I remain torn.
