WoW and Glee and zzzz

This is going to be quicker than I'd like, because I'm exhausted.

Glee: I don't like Christmas specials and I hate Christmas music, so I knew going in the ep would likely be my least favorite. Liked:
- Kurt's song (what a voice!)
- Becky was amazingly cute (though I'm disliking the situations Sue puts her in -- she's a child that needs to learn right from wrong, not a dog or a doll of Sue's)
- That Britt believes in Santa is so cute (she's really one of my favorite characters)
- But best of all was Beiste's story of her childhood Christmas wish. If any character is ever, ever horrible to Beiste again, I shall hunt them down. Hunt down a fictional character, yes. That's how serious I am.

WoW: *insert screenshot here* The fact that my first experience in Cata's new areas was face-down, floating lifeless in the water made me laugh out loud. Welcome to how the last two FFXI missions started -- with you dead!

Did some questing on big Keen to get him the seahorse mount. Never, ever will I quest on him again. I HATE HATE HATE rogue in PvE. Leather armor, no self healing*, no pet... Fighting one single 80 mob brought me below half-life every time. Two or more killed me every time unless Vanish was cooled. It wasn't until I was almost done did I bitch about that and Morny pointed out that rogues were given a minor heal in the last patch. That was something, though far from enough. Plate-wearers, druids, mages, I didn't see a single class that had a hard time with one mob, and most of them were killing many at a time.

After that I did archaeology for, um, hours. Too many hours, but I have a hard time stopping.

Another cross-over between FFXI and WoW: In Hot&Cold on FFXI, the... whatever they were called, the spots with the chest, they were in fixed spots, it wasn't truly random. I quickly noticed that in Archaeology, too. There are a set number of goal spots, you can memorize where they are and that helps.

Hit 110 in archaeology. Leveling slows so much after 100. zzzz I mean, you go from a skillup nearly every dig to five skillups every... lord, my tired brain needs to do math... well, lot less skillups.

zzzz

Well. You were wanting a profession that was harder to skill up, like FFXI. ;3 Archaeology is it!

Also, as a fellow rogue, I'd like to see you kill something sometime pve-wise on Keen. You shouldn't be having -that- much trouble with one mob at-level, but yeah, getting swarmed can suck (and with the absurd respawn rate due to everyone killing everything as soon as it spawns and the game trying to keep up with the 'keep X number of mobs up at any given time', it's -really- bad right now. It'll get better once the rush has passed!). Recuperate isn't exactly a minor heal, either, it's just not a big chunk at a time. It's pretty potent if you have it talented and get used to keeping it up all the time!

*looks at Armory as an afterthought* D: ... D: D: D:

Oh, baby, we'll get you fixed up. ._. Be on AIM around 7pm your time, I will help you rogue!

Well. You were wanting a profession that was harder to skill up, like FFXI. ;3 Archaeology is it!

Oh yes! It's not even annoyingly hard, it's just an adjustment to go from skilling up every dig to skilling only once you complete an item.

You shouldn't be having -that- much trouble with one mob at-level

Now that I've slept and my brain is unfogged, I remember what the issue is. Round peg, square hole. I never liked the class in PvE, I've always had trouble with it (Keen was my first character leveled through PvP for a reason!). The class doesn't match my play style, and with how much I dislike questing anyway, "easy mode" DK or hunter just makes me so much happier.

It's pretty potent if you have it talented and get used to keeping it up all the time!

Yeah, not talented (see also: Not knowing it existed! :P ), and not used to keeping it up at all. Mostly I hit it now and then, when I was nearly dead and my bandages weren't cooled.

Thanks for the offer of fixing him up though! I'm going to go back to my peaceful WoW life of leveling through cooking and fishing dailies -- when you add the XP of archaeology into that, it's like I'm flying! Keen is almost 81!

Edit: One day I will remember that it is 'class' not 'job'!

You're also playing Combat. I'mma show you the push-button-to-win joys of Assassination ;E Just come with me through Hyjal to one of the early quest rewards for a good MH dagger and I'll never bugh you to PVE with me again~

I swear SE just loved "killing" us (we were technically unconscious but whatever). I swear I've lost how many times my character has been kicked in the face, thrown off a cliff, buried in an avalanche, or otherwise incapacitated just for a convenient transition...and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I actually found some free time today for WoW! Yay! I managed to finish my first part of stupid access and sent that off to the other group members to worry about! Got to 82, not really digging vash`whatever. It`s nice, but seems like newness for newness sake...probably go into it in a bigger post tomorrow or something.

Also, we saw someone hit grand illustrious archaeology (whatever the rank is) on realm first when I logged on. I think we were all dumb struck by that. People need lives...

[identity profile] achika-soladia.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They had only hit Grandmaster, so 450.

[identity profile] veloxe.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1:28pm est, someone just hit 525 for the realm first.

...and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Yes! It was amazingly fun to be abused in cutscenes! Like Naja tricking our characters into signing the contract. And getting the death music with that! :D :D

I actually found some free time today for WoW! Yay!

Eeee, YAY! I'll be interested to see what you have to say about Vash'underwaterplace! It didn't do much for me, I felt more like I was floating than swimming. The sea horse mount is nice though!

We've had so many Firsts on our server -- I suspect there are none left. It's insane! I agree: Those people need lives (and I rarely say that sort of thing!).

[identity profile] achika-soladia.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Or the time Naja accidentally hit you in the face with her mace!

CoP was full of being unconscious. I attributed many of Achika's personalty traits to head trauma.

On Glee: I learned through the magic of the Internet that the actress who plays Bieste (Dot Jones) is a 15 time world arm wrestling champion, and a former Olympic shot-put athlete. Wow! What an interesting person.

I made the decision to pre-order the CE of Cataclysm from Amazon, and it has shipped but not yet arrived. So annoying! Should show up today, though. Northrend was all mine last night.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's so cool! I need to spend some time reading about her, she does seem really interesting. I'd like to hear what she says of her Glee character!

I was tempted by the CE, too! But once I saw the digital download available, as much as I like having physical copies of the game, I had to go that route. Hope yours gets there soon! Early today!

[identity profile] jelleneth.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I did the first couple naga quests on Jell and managed to hit a spot where I was trapped in aggro range of about 4 respawns that kept coming back up faster than I could kill the other ones also respawning. Horrible infinite loop of death.

Except, of course that I'm a hunter. So I killed about 20 of the things before my pet finally died and I had to feign and then runlikehell.

[identity profile] achika-soladia.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a few times like this. It was really irritating.

Your BE icon is cute. =3

[identity profile] sailor-arashi.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Had that happen a lot myself. As a Protection Belfadin, though, it was very much a "Don't throw me into that briar patch" situation. Just sit there and slaughter respawns until your quest is complete or you get bored, then bubble and leave. Easy peasy :D

[identity profile] pomr.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one way to power level. :) Find a sweet spot, then kill endlessly. It isn't elegant, but I bet it would work.

Hee! I think, as Kae said, when there stops being 38749247904701301 people killing in the area, things will get better. I'll go back in a couple weeks and try again (on mini-Keen, most likely) some other time!

[identity profile] achika-soladia.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I played a little bit with archaeology. You were the first person I thought of when I saw how it played out. I like it better than I did Chocobo Hot and Cold, because it's a smaller range and (as far as I know) you're guaranteed three artifacts at a dig site.

I decided it's probably best in small bursts for people like me. I think I got it to 35ish, but I can't seem to find the info on my Armory page.

And one of my addons will save archaeology dig spots in areas. I think it's Gatherer but I use a number of different map marking for gathering spot addons.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)

This isn't the first time I've heard that! :D <3

Correct, as far as I know and have seen personally.

And one of my addons will save archaeology dig spots in areas.

:o I need to look into that!

[identity profile] achika-soladia.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The only other addon I can think of offhand is GatherMate.

[identity profile] pomr.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I found the mobs quite easy to kill on my rogue. :) It was actually refreshing to fight mobs that I took damage from!

Look her up on The Armory -- Liannyn on Durotan, see what you think. She's a combat rogue. Between recuperate, killing spree, and vanish I found that most of the mobs were pretty simple, though chain pulls got taxing, and multimob pulls were somewhat challenging, but so far -- not bad. :)

The hardest part of questing last night was the fifty-seven thousand hojillion other people out there doing the same things. Very frustrating.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it was more me than the class (no matter how I may have made it sound last night!). I don't like playing rogue, and somehow my drive for MUST COLLECT MOUNTS made me forget that. But I got him the seahorse, so now he just needs two more!

Horribly frustrating. Between endlessly dying and all the people, I made myself miserable doing it. But archaeology made things better!

I'm not sure why I'm still watching "Glee" at this point. This season has, for the most part, made me want to tear people's throats out with my bare hands.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a reaction I'm seeing from a lot of people. I think that the cute/sweet/good moments are good enough to outweigh all the bad and keep us coming back? I hate the whole Fin/Rachael relationship stuff. Sue as the Grinch did nothing for me (though I seem to be in the minority on that). But things like Kurt's song (which, um, I hadn't realized was a date rape song until I saw it mentioned on my flist, there was even a line I missed, something like "what's in this drink?") and coach Beiste were enough to keep me coming back.

There are other things, things that surprise me. I'm not a Christmas person, I don't think kids should be fooled about Santa, but I liked that Brit still believed. How did that work? I think because the Artie/Brit relationship does. It's a small, subtle thing, but I think it makes the show better.

What are the worst parts for you? Seems like much Glee LJ rage is directed at Will (rightly so, in my opinion).
