Can't the items at least be... useful? (WoW)

*holds head* I spent two days, two more than ten hour days, doing archaeology to finish my Tol'vir archaeology item: Pendant of the Scarab Storm. BoA purple item, lets you summon a storm of peaceful scarabs. (1 Hour 40 Min Cooldown). That is indeed a lot of scarabs. They stay about ten seconds. Being peaceful, they do nothing. So, you have a BoA purple item that gives a cosmetic effect. For ten seconds.

I also have the purple Bones of Transformation, and again the costume lasts for less than 20 seconds.

Purple wisp necklace. Turns you into a wisp. For 20 seconds.

I've gotten one BoA item which are probably considered useful. A clothie chest piece, but must be over level 60 to use (I have no cloth-wearers). I'm currently working on Ring of the Boy Emperor, a BoA 85 ring for some class I'm unsure of (Paladin I guess? +286 Stamina, +190 Intellect, +haste and +mastery. Or paladin and caster?).

I also have six more blue costume/"fun" items.

I have no issues with so-called "fun" items, but the fact that the longest of them lasts 30 seconds and the majority of them last under 10 seconds annoys the hell out of me.

Mini-Keen hit 85 this morning, so now archaeology is even more pointless than before. I should switch to one of my non-85s, but I hate the idea of giving up.

Sorry I've been posting about this so much, it's just that I put so much darned time into this, it's really frustrating me.

Edit: And as usual, after I make a complaining post, I want to take it down. :P Going to leave it up though! I was trying not to compare the two games, but maybe doing so will make my unhappiness clearer: In FFXI, costume items last a half hour (or hour? 45 minutes?). I forget the exact time, but it's a darned long time. Long enough to run around town and be seen, to have fun with it. Items lasting for 10-30 seconds though... why? Would it hurt the game somehow to let you stay in costume longer? To make the item-animations longer? To be followed by "peaceful bugs" for longer?

Definitely looks like a mage/paladin/priest/failkin DPS ring. Probably not for healers, what with lack of Spirit, although if you had enough elsewhere I guess they could still work with it.

I guess I'll give it to my Boomkin then! <3

Yeah, my guess is those items have a history of glitching things either overwhelming servers in cities (100 people pull them out) or boss fights, etc. Yes blizz should program better, but by setting short durations it is an easy way to limit the damage ahead of time. I would prefer longer myself.

Blah, that makes sense.

Hm, the ring would be pretty good for pretty much any caster class, and possibly healers depending on how good their mana regen is. 168 int is a really, really nice chunk of spellpower at that level and the haste and mastery is excellent. As for the stam, Blizz has really liked to throw craptons of stam on things lately -- it's useful enough having a lot of health when the healers are forced to let you to sit at 50% the entire fight due to the way the game works now.

And, agreed on the duration of things. I wish the Potion of Illusion, or whatever it's called lasted longer. That's actually two minutes, but it would be so much cooler if it was longer than that, like the stupid savory deviate delights.

Okay, ring goes to Thack the boomkin then! If I ever level him from 80 to 85. *so lazy*

That Dal... what's it called, Underbelly Thingie lasts a long time too (hour?), and the Dal magical fish as well. It's annoying these are so short.
