Happy thing #11

I don't think I'm unusual in being annoyed at needing to side scroll my friends page.

Used to be, it was quite the sin to make people on your friends list side scroll.

This Happy Things post keeps wanting to be written as a Thistle Bitches post instead.

This Image Resizer addon for Firefox makes me want to beat people less happy. With it, you get to fix images others didn't resize resize others' images so that they don't make you side scroll your friends page. It works on other sites as well, but I rarely need to use it anywhere other than LJ.

This post brought to you by: Posted images twice as wide as my friends list page.

Important notes:

I don't mean to call anyone out personally. Even if you currently have a big image posted, I'm not addressing this to any one person. (Lord, that would be passive-aggressive!)

I'm aware that, because of different font, resolution, page sizes, any number of features an image might look bigger for one person than another.

Most important note: I'm not trying to change what or how others post, no matter how grumpy I sound. My rule of LJ is: It's your LJ, post whatever you want (everyone else has the right to read it or not). You want to post big images? 100% your right! But I get to resize them, bitch, or whatever else I need to do to cope with them. :)

Less important note: Now that I've written this up, I no longer feel so grumpy and worry the post is too angry.

Note: This post now has more notes than post!

Happy thing #11A: Notes.

Note!

Edit: Note: New rule! All comments to this post must be left in note form.

Cause of your grumpies, I try to make images a tiny bit smaller now. I hate friends being pissy at me for dumb stuff.

Aww, thank you! It wasn't directed at you personally. It's kind of you to make them smaller. (Hopefully it'll make more people than just me happy!)

Note to self: install that Firefox add-on.

Note to [livejournal.com profile] thistle_chaser: I agree, giganormous images on LJ are annoying! And it's so easy to adjust the size with the upload feature LJ has now, too.

Note: Agreed. I resize mine offline in Photoshop or whatever, then upload it to my own webspace. But there are easier ways built into LJ and other image hosting sites.

Maybe some people don't mind side scrolling? I don't know.

I don't know. I usually down-scroll in that case, not side. *g*

Before I found this addon, I used adblock to block the big pictures, but there were so many that was getting to be a pain.

Unfortunately the resizing doesn't last if you reload the page, that's the only downside of it.

I am sure I am one of the offenders on this. I got a new phone in January and now I'm like WHY ARE THE PICTURES SO HUGE THEY WERE NOT THIS HUGE ON THE OLD PHONE WTF HOW DO I DO?

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2014-03-22 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you are! Some food pictures tend to be big, but they're mostly from the [livejournal.com profile] picturing_food comm.

Well, that is good. But I should still probably figure out how my phone works. XD <3 <3

Supposedly all my images are 600 and under -- that's the idea. Usually smaller. They look fine on my laptop screen, which is where I do everything.

My problem is so many sites have way embiggened their sites' fonts and images -- presumably because they believe everyone is doing whatever they do on iphones and tablets. Which makes it all way too big to read on my laptop/notebook. Salondotcom among others I am looking straight at you and no longer read. Though you have provided ample other reason not to bother with you anyway.

Love, c.

Yeah, 600 is great, I aim for that too. 800 is the very max I'll go, and that's really pushing it to me.

I've found that as well -- I think more and more sites are designing for phones instead of computers.
