FTP tool? New eyes? Old sites? I need them all!

So tired. My new upstairs neighbors moved in a couple days ago, and sadly they're so loud. Even more sadly, they're loud before 5 AM. I'm such a light sleeper, their stomping keeps me up at night and wakes me up long before my alarm goes off (are they dancing in high heels and work boots? I think so!). Blah.

There was going to be a picture with this post, but my "freeware" FTP tool stopped working after 30 days. Grrr. Does anyone have an easy, simple one they like?

My eyes are so tired! I've been reading so much since last night. My IC journal posts, my RP partner's IC posts, and I started in on some RP logs, too. Man, I'm so in love with this story we had been playing out! It pains me to know that all too soon I'll reach the end of my reading material for it.

Related to that: While I backed up all(?) of my IC posts on LJ, the fellow I was RPing with did not. D: The site were we had originally posted them (wyrmrestaccord.org) seems to have deleted them all, which is very sad. I even checked the Internet Wayback Machine, but it was no help. Looks like back in 2012 they had an archive up so you could download your old stuff, but they sent no email out about it or anything... Blah.

I was having fun reading one of my character's posts, then one of his from the same day, back and forth... until I reached a big block of time with none from him -- he hadn't cross-posted it. I have no idea if I had cross-posted all of mine or not. What a loss. :/

I haven't RPed in a couple days now. My current character/plotlines seem to pale next to these old ones. Blah.

FTP

You didn't say whether you are using Mac or Microsoft.
If you are using microsoft, I suggest Winscp. It is freeware.
If that doesn't work for you try WinFTP

Seconding WinSCP. Great tool and completely free.

Two votes for WinSCP? I'll try it out tonight!

Thanks! :)

Oops, should have listed my OS, that would have been helpful.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm going to try out WinSCP tonight!

We had an upstairs neighbour at the flat who stomped every time she moved. We called her Nelly the Elephant.

I don't understand role playing at all, although someone I used to work with does it. My brother belonged to an after school D&D club in the 80s.

Ha! I might have to call mine Nelly, too.

You can think of RPing like writing a story with another person. (I often describe it as "cooperative storytelling".) Say you wanted to write about two people going on a blind date. You make up a character you want to write for (personality, gender, physical description, all that) and the other person makes up a character as well. What happens when the two first see each other? Do their personalities mesh well or clash? Since you're writing about a date, what does your character think of the other person's? All that kind of thing. Now, change the blind date idea to literally anything -- want to write about someone opening a pet shop in space? A newly arrived person in Hell? A world where animals talk?

RPing is a way to experience all sorts of things. It's fun, challenging, and when done well, the emotions you write about feel real.

I've used this one for years with no problem. http://www.wsftple.com/

Thanks for the recommendation! That will be my backup one -- two people recommended WinSCP, so I'm going to try that one first. If I don't like it, then I'll try WS_FTP next. :)

No probs. Good luck!

I use captainFTP. It works for me.

Sorry about your upstairs!

Thanks! I found one I like, but if it stops working or decides to try to start charging me like my last one, I'll happily check it out.

Sorry about the stomping neighbors. Some people are just loud walkers. My daughter, who is a very small person, sounds like an elephant. My wife is similar. I, on the other hand, an forever accidentally startling people because they don't hear me, and I weigh about 210.

Isn't that strange? I've caught sight of her, and she's just a short, slender woman. I can't imagine how she makes so much noise! I'm with you, I think I'm quiet, though I'm heavier than most.
