Unfortunately inevitable... (LJ's "Like" button)

So LJ now has a "Like" button. News post here.

I can't see it on my friends page or my main page. I'm still on S1 I think, so maybe that's why. Is anyone else seeing them?

Can't say I like this change at all, though I'm not surprised it happened...

I suspect they will. So much easier to click a button than to take the time to write out a comment.

I wonder if the feature isn't fully working yet? Or my style is blocking everything on my end. When I go to the tracking page, http://www.livejournal.com/statistics/likes/, I see zero likes. So maybe it only shows on your end?

I'm trying to upgrade to S2, but LJ really doesn't make it easy to figure out...

It's not showing up for me either (and I'm on S1 style, friendspage and comment pages).

I am apprehensive about the addition of "Like", although I have also wished for this capability on LJ sometimes, because it does happen that I see posts that I want to acknowledge but without really knowing what to say. It's such a slippery slope, though!

Yeah, I'm just a little torn (because I do like being able to like things on Tumblr), but LJ is a different beast.

I'm in the process of trying to change to S2, but I actually had to open a support ticket. I have no idea why it's apparently so complex to switch. (I'm not just switching for the ability to see when someone likes things, but other features I've missed out on, like being able to suggest related posts).

Oh, seeing the news post reminds me that I noticed a little while ago that the Memories button on my comment pages changed from a heart to a little bookmark thingy, and I remember thinking that it was probably because LJ was working on a "like" feature which would use the heart instead. Guess I was right about that :P

Good luck with switching over to s2! Doesn't seem like it should be as hard as it apparently is!

I enjoy LJ because people actually leave comments, instead of just clicking "like." I hope people will still leave comments!

Oh, is that the heart at the bottom of the page? I just read something in the browser but I'm usually on my app (but app was being crappy about loading pictures, hence the browser) and at first I thought it was part of the entry. I don't think I've noticed it before. I don't think I'm a fan. I like that it's comment or nothing (basically). Liking is "too easy" I feel. I don't know.

Agreed. Too easy and not really worth much -- a single click vs a written comment?

Yeah, I think the two things must be related. We're extra worried about LJ because we're so invested in it at this point. If Tumblr made some big change, I'd be all "Meh, whatever."

I do see people complaining about Tumblr changes, and that is basically my reaction.

My LJ is still S1, and given the luck I've had in the past about getting issues solved, I'm pretty much going to keep it that way. ^^;

Yeah, I'd recommend staying on S1. I moved to S2, now my LJ is ugly and hard to read, and I still don't have the S2 features.. What a waste.

I finally made it work. On your profile page, upper right corner, there's a button for clicking to the new style. (But once you click it, you lose all your old style stuff...)
