Stupid, stupid people.

"Oh boy, our sports team won!" *riots*
"Oh no, our sports team lost!" *riots*

I don't know how far out of California this story got, but on Christmas a white cop shot a black man. Black guy (with multiple priors) was resisting arrest. Cop warned him he was going to use his taser on him. One of two things happened: The cop grabbed his gun by mistake and shot him, or he said to himself 'This guy is pissing me off, I'm going to kill him'. Trial's been going on for a week or so, jury came back this afternoon. Involuntary manslaughter. Seemed a reasonable decision to me (cop had just a couple hours training on the taser and depending on the model (department had both kinds) it could be on his left or right side, it varied by day which side it was on).

Resisting arrest is a damned, damned stupid thing to do. Yes, you shouldn't get shot for it, but still. An adult should know better. That's not the point of the post though.

The family of the man killed asked for people not to be violent, no matter how the decision went.

For the last four or five hours, various religious and other "community leaders" have been blanketing the airwaves, asking people not to be violent.

These idiots are rioting anyway. They're robbing stores in their own city, likely owned by their neighbors. They're spraypainting the "victim's" name everywhere... hurting their neighbors. This is the city that THEY have to live in. If there was any justice, the copy who were trying to stop all this would not have to live in that city, too.

Posts like this make me feel very not-liberal. I'd be all for putting these people in a cage somewhere and treating them like the animals they're acting like. (I know, I know, insult to animals...)

I just don't get how people think it's their right to riot and loot, burn, steal, do all sorts of bad things, just because they're stupid unhappy.

They're treating the guy who got shot like a hero. Women are on camera crying his name, men holds their hat before them and whisper his name. He was a criminal and he was stupid. He died because he was stupid. Not because he was a black man stopped by a white cop, but because the cop told him to do something and instead he fought.

...on second though, I suppose it makes sense he's a hero to them.

Ya, that whole situation is stupid. The rioting part, not the dead guy part, that's just unfortunate.

I still say we just remove the warning labels off everything and let the problem take care of itself. If someone sues a company because they didn't know taking their hairdryer into the shower could get them electrocuted then they will immediately be put into a rehabilitation program to attempt to cure them of their stupid. Of course, this will only be a one time thing. Repeated offenders will just be left to their own devices until they end up killing themselves by shoving a fork into a toaster or something.

*snerks* I'd vote for that!

I should note, this one affected me because I lived in Cincinnati. Though I lived within a 2 minute walk of the neighboring city (Fairfield), I was in that curfew.

I had a friend over my house that night. We lost track of time. So where my normal stops to take him home and go to McDonalds meant I had to be a bit sneaky about it. And it's hard to be sneaky when EVERY route open leads past the police station. They had closed down an extremely dangerous intersection to make it better.

I take no stance on the situation because it's not my job. If Timothy Thomas wouldn't have been the one that got shot, the riots would've ensued when MaquƩte Jackson (Fictional name) got shot.

Findlay Market was built to give people in that community a chance at honest work. It's been around for years. It was one of the first things the rioters went after.

Stupid, stupid people.

Sheesh... "Findlay Market was built to give people in that community a chance at honest work. It's been around for years. It was one of the first things the rioters went after." That makes my head hurt so much. D:

It's actually funny that I recall the details so easily. I can actually tell you I had just started spring break. I also remember one of my African-American classmates came in the following week and said "What the hell did you people do while I was in Hawaii?"

I also remember my accounting teacher near going off on the couple girls in the class who said they went to join the riots.

And Findlay Market is great. I've never been, but my parents went fairly often. They got a lot of good food there. I should go up there sometime.

In the daytime.

At your classmate: Ha!

On the teacher: Woo! That's what I would have done.

And you should totally go! Sounds like a good place.

There are bad people out there who would take any opportunity to loot and burn...they are not doing that to protest an issue, but to join the "fun", get free stuff that does not belong to them and ruin things that other people worked hard for.

The LA riots was one of the major reasons why we decided to move out of So California. Having seen what they did to Koreatown(mom had a business there), we did not want to stay in an area where neighbors turned into animals at a moment's notice. At least with coyotes and bears, I know what I am getting.

And coyotes and bears, unless they're sick (rabid), would generally act in a way that you can predict and deal with ("Mmm chickens!"). "Reasonable", sort of. These rioters are just bad. "they are not doing that to protest an issue, but to join the "fun", get free stuff that does not belong to them and ruin things that other people worked hard for." I think that sums it up, sadly.

I also heard there are anarchists from Berkley ( I think ) that are inciting the riots.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I just put up another post about that! Interesting facts about where folks came from.

Ah, ok I'll go read it now~.

I literally could not agree with you more. I agree with you on every single point.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sad that we have to agree!

[identity profile] pure-trance.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
On the bright side it's nice to have friends that agree with me lol. A friend of mine is apparently very "fuck the police" so he was quite angry about the verdict last night, which pissed me off. I told my husband that the friend lost 10 points with me...I thought he was smarter than that...

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm neither really pro-police nor fuck-the-police. They're humans too, trying to do a good job. Humans can fail, though the vast majority of them do try to do good. I think that counts for a lot.

[identity profile] pure-trance.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, police are people just like the rest of us and they are doing something very important which is protecting us. Cops have bad days just like the rest of us, and aren't infallible.

If there were no police we'd be screwed...

Can you link me to an article with his criminal record? I don't remember that part.

Unhelpfully in this case, I get most of my news from the radio while I'm driving. Sorry!
