Has it been a week already?

While I've been reading my flist daily, I fell out of the habit of posting. A big part of it is that I'm still reading the Harry Potter fanfic I posted about. I posted that on 1/9, eight days ago, and I've been reading it with all of my free time since then (entire weekend days!) and I'm still only 40 or so chapters in. It boggles me at how good and long fics can be, and they're free! A writer like that one should be charging for his work.

RL is RL. Went to the doctor and everything's gotten better, every single test she did. So yay. Also, she found out the reason I've been getting so sick with stomach troubles lately. It's not something I want to write about here, other than it's a relief to know I'm not crazy and there's logic behind it/it's not just a randomly happening thing.

WoW is WoW. I finally closed shop on Alliance side. My gold is trapped there, I'll never faction change another alt to Horde. I have 30K gold there, enough if I want to roll another blue alt. No need to spend my time making more there.

Clove the warlock hit 60, which means all ten of my alts can fly. WOO. Reed the paladin is 81. He'll be 85 #9 when he hits it. Scary thought. Scarier thought: MoP will raise the level cap. I'll have to level all 10 alts again.

Archaeology is slower. With the reduced Northrend XP, Reed is 81 and still needs three more rares to Professor. This makes me feel bad, as all my other alts got it 79 or earlier (pre-XP change).

It's been a long time since WoW made me sad compared to FFXI, but I leveled skinning from 1-525 in a couple hours and it depressed me endlessly. Where's the feeling of accomplishment when it's so easy?

RP is still good (understatement!). I love RP. I love the people I RP with. I love Thistle and his eee little wolf puppy. RP makes me bouncy-happy.

So basically everything's either the same or good. :) <3 to everyone!

I've been a long-time lover of fanfiction. :D I'm actually reading a Naruto 'fic right now that just the other day I was kind of chuckling at myself because it was so moving I almost shed a tear over it. XD That doesn't usually happen with a lot of published works and it's awesome. I never really got into HP fanfiction, but I've heard that there are a lot of really fantastic writers working within the fandom, so perhaps I'll check this one out when I'm running low on what I have sitting in my fanfic queue already. :3

It's also good that you're feeling better! I know how much of a great relief it is getting those medical things resolved.

I'm not a fanfic fan (that doesn't sound right, but i'll go with it) at all with 1 exception -- The Thing fanfiction by Peter Watts brought new dimensions of depth to a great horror movie. Harry Potter & Methods of Rationality is the second exception I've added. If the scenes between Fawkes, Harry, and Dumbledore don't make you tear up a bit, you aren't human. I didn't even like the original Harry Potter stories (for many reasons that get addressed in HPMoR).

Seriously, go read the first couple chapters now. I was very pleased to find the ePub version on the author's Bio page, and promptly loaded it to my iPhone.

Unfortunately, it kind of slides downhill in the chapter 70 range, but I don't think it was possible to stay as good as it was being. Hopefully it'll pick back up (whenever updates get posted WHEN THE HELL ARE UPDATES POSTED WHY NOT NOW DAMNIT!)

(for many reasons that get addressed in HPMoR).

I love how it addresses so many of the issues from the original stories. It's so nice that someone else sees them! And how seemingly easily it is to correct them.

I'm sorry to hear it goes downhill eventually, but at least I have a long way until then. And yeah, hopefully it'll pick up again! :D

You're in the 40s...it doesn't get worse than it was prior to that point. It just gets really really good, starting at mid-40s (once the Dementors are introduced). I won't spoil it, but expect to weep after Azkaban.

Ah! Good then! I checked over lunchtime, I'm on chapter 47 (I think the Dementor was brought in last chapter), so I'll hold onto my set as I continue.

Yes! I've sometimes cried over fanfic as well. Some of it is just so well written!

I hope you enjoy it, if you do give it a try.

And thanks! Yes. :)

\0/ for fanfic. It's what really got me into reading and writing, and you're right in that a lot of it is professional or better in quality. :B I wish more people would give it credit. :/

I'm glad the doctor was able to figure out what was wrong! Being sick and having no idea what's wrong is a terrible feeling. :c I hope the medication/treatment they gave isn't bad.

In sum, <3 for you too. :D

I know! Some people look down their nose at all fanfic, which boggles me. Sure there's some bad fanfic out there (same as there are some bad movies, bad books, bad food), but to say ALL of it is bad?

And thanks! All the <3 to you! :D

Probably a big turn off is having to sift through a lot of badfic to find the gems. That's why I like some of the sites with a quality rating system that will reject the really bad ones. Most of my experiences with those have been good (particularly one site that was dedicated to Final Fantasy VIII fanfics that had nice quality control).

I've written a few fics myself. Nothing major or hugely multi-chaptered or anything, but I always tried to avoid all the pitfalls of the badfic. I'm a little sad because I got turned down from one such controlled website, but that was for an Evangelion fanfic I wrote and they denied me only on the basis that the idea I'd written the fic about had been debunked in the canon. Which.. seems to not make sense, since it's fanfic! XD Ohwell!

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2012-01-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, agreed. There needs to be some way to sort through them, a rec site or whatever.

... And yeah, that makes no sense at all. That's the point of fanfic! Exploring things, dealing with things the canon didn't, all the what-ifs. It's fun!

I finally closed shop on Alliance side. My gold is trapped there, I'll never faction change another alt to Horde

Money laundering tip: list a bunch of crap items like cheese on the neutral AH for 10,000 each and then have the rich alliance char buy them.

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2012-01-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I wish! Unfortunately you can't buy from an alt on your same account. If only I had a second account I could make use of the gold and the alt to send things across the neutral AH to sell I could use that idea!
