Way to ruin a food blog...

I love reading food blogs. Cooking blogs, review blogs, anything food related. There's one I've been especially enjoying, he reviews lots of funky things from his local dollar store. Then I got to an entry about candy cigarettes. The post started with:

Candy cigarettes. The very concept gives bluenoses, anti-tobacco fanatics, and health nazis apoplectic convulsions of self-righteous rage and indignation. Back when I was a kid - before America decided to roll up its sleeves and get down to the serious business of turning its citizens into pussies - candy cigarettes were not only widely available, but were marketed using real cigarette brands and package art.

I... wait... what? None of his other posts have had this feel to it, at first I was sure it was a joke or a parody or something, but nope. Now suddenly reading his blog has a Rush Limbaughesque feel to it.

Yo parents! Stop raising pussies! Forget the candy cigarettes, give your kids real ones! This is AMERICA after all!

Edit: He also picked and ate mushrooms growing in his yard without knowing what they were. D: D: D: Do not do that, people! Even if you think you know what a mushroom is, there are many that look alike -- poisonous ones that look like safe ones!

I admittedly enjoyed candy cigarettes. And I admittedly used to pretend I was smoking them. XD I never ended up smoking though. All the feigned smoking action was purely fictional. My mom and I have reminisced about the time of candy cigarettes (because that's one of the few things she grew up with that was still around when I was a kid and I remember enjoying) and we both miss them.

But I think he definitely could have gone on about his love of candy cigarettes without that sort of post. That wasn't necessary. :c

I had a lot of fun smoking candy cigarettes, but I'd never ever smoke real ones. He could have gotten the point across without all the extra stuff, yeah...

I remember not hating candy cigarettes...but then I had bad acid reflux as a kid, so the powdery antiacid properties might have something to do with it.

Now smoking...Man I started doing that young. Not for nicotine or to fit in, but because I could breathe smoke. I got to carry around a little thing that burned slowly and I could pass the time just watching something burn. Half the time, I'd take one or two puffs and spend the rest of the time watching the smoke curl. Or blow smoke rings. Almost never inhaled - I was an asthmatic kid, inhaling smoke was horrible.
