As achika_soladia said -- you don't have to stay in the ring, but:
1) You do have a time limit that can run out 2) You have stay on the grounds -- you'll get a warning, that's when I suggest backing up even it means taking a hit, not like you can't shield again.
My GuildMaster insists on Charging, and he devastates them, I'm not as good as he is. =)
