WoW woes

I finally crossed the 200K gold mark. I entered into Cata with 100K, so this should be good, it should make me happy, it should make me facepalm because no one needs that much gold, but instead I'm angry. I'd be pissed off if I had the energy for it.

The amount of time I've put into getting that much gold, if I were on a different server (one with, say, raw mats on the AH...), I would easily have three times that much money.

People on other servers have seemingly endless supplies of dirt-cheap mats. On WRA? I get a couple single pieces of mats every few days. People elsewhere have more mats than they can process, they have a damned endless stream of gold coming in. Me? I spent 14 hours standing in front of the AH yesterday and I got one stack and a couple singles of mats.

I tell myself it doesn't matter. And really, it doesn't. I have more gold than I'll ever use. But still, it pushes my "it's not fair!" button big time.

Making an equal amount of gold for an equal amount of time spent in the effort. Is that an unreasonable wish?

Cross server Auction Houses. I really think we should have this. They can do BGs and Dungeons, why not AHes?

I really dislike how much what server you are on influences your destiny but there is such limited information to learn about that prior to joining.

Exactly. Our raw mat prices are through the roof, but the finished products made from those mats? Cheaper than the raw version... And things like armor and such are so much more expensive as well.

I commented in giftofarthas's journal that I guess this is the price of us being (arguably) the most popular, active RP server. People can't spend all their time RPing AND farm...

On Hellscream, which is where I was at the time, if you wanted things to sell, and sell well OR if you wanted to buy, you had to know days of the week and time ranges, because the economy was based on when the "casuals" (and the most likely gold buyers; gold was hard to make pre-dailies, yo! "Casuals" were more prone to using gold selling services because of that.) were playing. So, for the most part, weekends in the early evening. During the week or at other times, you could sometimes find cheap things from people who just wanted to offload their stuff, but most of the time the AH was bare of anything useful.

IIRC, ore generally went on on Saturday, around 4pm, and most of it was gone by 6. During the week, or at different times, you were lucky if it'd sell at all.

God, this reminds me.. I've been playing Rift lately. Never had a fresh economy to play with before. :) That said, I am not as good as Thistle is at making money, because I don't care to. That said, there's this 'uber' mount at max level that costs a 'shit ton' to buy. I'm not even max level, only 43, and I could already buy it. Someone told me I had to have bought gold to get what I have. o.O; Why are people always so stupid about money in games? I don't even have any crafts! I just gather materials as I level and sell them, as well as sell drops.

I can't imagine devoting the time you do to making money. :) You are far more dedicated than I, Thistle!

Ha! How many times I've heard that. It's so insulting! Why would anyone buy gold, it's so darned easy to make...

How are you liking Rift? Going to stick with it?

Yeah, my money is with powerleveling, um, eight professions across ten alts, buying my sandstone drake mats in the early days of Cata when they were uber expensive and other things. Gold is even easier to make in Cata than it was in WotLK!

Rift has been nice, but I don't know yet. I like it better than WoW, and it's only been out a month. There are glitches and stuff that drive me buggy sometimes, but they update nearly every other day, and are working hard to fix things. Very unlike Blizzard on many ways. That said, their customer service blows currently, but that's due to a HUGE security flaw they found and fixed. There are several thousand accounts to repair due to that. @.@ But because of it they added an in game system that if someone logs into your account it autolocks the account. Can't do anything on it but level and earn money. Can't trade, mail, create, delete, throw anything away, sell anything.. It's VERY nice. They are also soon to be adding authenticators.

Now, why I like Rift? The Souls system is very nice and very configurable. Each class has eight souls, and tri spec is already allowable! These souls are like subclasses and you can use three for each spec. Means that Rogues can tank, melee, ranged, or even heal depending. :) Clerics can even tank, but they aren't good at melee, and expected to heal. 9.9;

The main reason are the rifts themselves. The world is CONSTANTLY under attack by other planer beings. It's like getting to instance/raid without ever having to bother with the chore of forming parties. Wander to a rift, join local group with a touch of a button.. earn loots! Don't want to? Ignore the rift.

It can be annoying of course. Rifts spawn invasion groups that wander the roads, but I enjoy it a lot. You get great xp and loot for rifting, and they are improving the rewards.

Also, every while a major rift event will take over a zone. Dozens of rifts, invasion groups, and then a boss critter at the end! So much fun! I've gotten whole levels from events.

Oh! There are also these things called artifacts. Scattered all over the world are these little, glowing spots. Click and you get an artifact. These are collected in sets, and if you complete a set you get a token towards buying fun items. Like this mouse hat with HUGE ears, or a slug that looks like it chews your head, or a slew of pets. There are thousands of artifacts, and people spend endless hours finding them. The game encourages exploration.

There are titles everywhere as well. Achievements also. I've spent afternoons climbing mountains and jumping off things just to see if I get things. ;)

Now this isn't to say the game doesn't have it's rage quit moments, but it's an MMO. I expect that. Like there are some group quests not marked group, much to my frustration. :(

Huh, that does sound interesting, especially the soul part. I miss subjob-like things (specs aren't the same). If I were looking for a new MMO, I'd come by and check it out! <3

My Justicar Cleric can tank just fine, thank you very much. 5.5k health buffed at level 41. Although AoE warriors pull aggro :P

I'm sorry! I didn't at all mean to suggest they couldn't tank. Clerics can! I found that highly neat. However, I am very frustrated with their dps. I survive leveling without issue, even against four mobs, but it's not a whole lot of fun to slowly kill when you watch a warrior wander over and nearly insta kill the same mobs, and he's a couple levels lower than you are. That's my gripe. :)

Yeah, Justicar DPS is pretty weak especially under Mien of Leadership. Although my caster spec, Cabalist/Inquisitor, is not too bad although I've only ever used that in instances.

I cheat somewhat by doing all my leveling with lokyst's Pyro Mage. :D

Warriors do more DPS than any other calling at the moment but supposedly that's being tuned in the upcoming patch 1.1.
