I've been playing WoW a few years now, way long enough for FFXI to be out of my brain and WoW fully replacing it. Or should be. So there I was, happily skilling enchanting on Clove, when suddenly it became time to train for a higher skill cap. "Level 75 required." ARG! How do I forget that skill cap is tied to level EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I hate leveling. I bet people laugh when I say that, since I have 8 85s, 1 84, and level 70 Clove, but I really, really do hate leveling. I don't enjoy questing, I wouldn't mind instancing if not for the other people, and archaeology is slow and boring. But darned it all, I need to level so I can craft!

How I miss the days of FFXI, where a level 1 could be a max level crafter and I was a crafting god and the richest person on the server. Blast from the past! Let's look at my old army of crafting mules!

There's one person missing from that, my clothcrafter: Damask, elvaan from Windy. And I think I'm missing a lot of jobs/classes from that, too. I think I left the game with double that number of maxed classes... Man, that sig sure does make me smile. I worked so hard on all of them. Crafting/playing the AH is so my thing, no matter the game.

Anyway! So now I'm leveling Clove. It's too late for him to get the Professor title (I did 60-70 through nothing but dailies, hardly any digging at all), but I can pound out five levels though. At least the Northrend levels were made shorter. (And yeah, Northrend is the only place I'm willing to quest, but questing as a clothie worries me. What if something hits me!)

In RP news, eeeeee! Holy cow, such good RP tonight! And bonus: That "wanted" feeling! Thistle ICly and me OOCly got an invite to join a guild. :D Unfortunately it wouldn't work ICly (they wanted Thistle to come work for their company), but they were nice and great RPers. It's like getting a job offer for a job you're not going to take -- it's nice to know someone out there wants you. :)

Between that and the really outstanding RP (to think, I almost passed it up because the guy's RSP current setting was 'smells like armpit'! but it turned out that fit the character perfectly well). They invited me to come RP with their guild anytime, too. They offered to set Thistle up in a shop ICly, but he's fine working at home (and home is private and he doesn't have to worry about anyone else being around or keeping an eye on Penny), so he said no.

I know I've written this before (heck, I nearly write it every time I get great RP), but it always amazes me how great good RP makes me feel. My chest fills with warm feelings and I feel like I'm walking lighter.

A very, very good night. :) And hopefully 71 for Clove before I go to bed! Hope everyone else had a good day, too!

Edit: What was I saying about Clove not getting Professor? o.O

Look at him go!

I'm in the same position on my enchanter alt. He has to be 65 to get any higher in tailoring OR enchanting... but the leveling options for level 55-65 are not very appealing. Right now he's in Silithus. As a priest..... ugh.

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Ugh, that range is the worst one. Alliance have it a bit easier (Blasted Lands for Alliance isn't so bad.) Did you do all of Swamp of Sorrow?

Too bad you can't level herb on him, I can get two levels in SoS just picking herbs (and they're so close and so many nodes, it goes really fast).

I just can't do Silithus. Ever. It's an ugly zone full of bugs and the quests are just awful. I generally go back and do green quests instead of going there. instancing is an option as well, but at this level range you run into all the new DKs...

From: [identity profile] blightheart.livejournal.com
No I haven't done Swamp of Sorrows yet. The warchief command board sent me to Silithus and so I dumped SoS because the "GO HERE!" quest was green. Silithus is horrible for priests because it's just littered with mobs. I had to have a friend come help me on some of the quests because it was just ridiculous...

I may switch to SoS though. I think he's 56? 57? So Outland is on the way. Not that it's that much better, really.

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
I highly recommend SoS. Quest-hating me doesn't mind it there. Phased areas are used in a really good way. There are a lot of quests really close together. The XP feels very fast. Plus the quests are actually interesting! (Again, unfortunately Alliance quests are better, but Horde's are still good. Alliance folks get to raid the Horde town there!)

Outlands at 58 is god awful. I'd wait until you have flying. Even on a good/easy job, like Hunter, that place is just so painful on foot. Heck, it's painful not on foot too, but on foot it's to the 'I'd rather quit WoW than do this' level for me.

I still miss FF11. It still makes me long to run around with Carby and go fishing. :( :( My arms? They do not miss FF11 at all. Not one bit.

Still think about it quite often too. Like I found this 3d render someone had done of Draque the other day. Man, I miss my scruffy guy.

I miss it a lot, too. It's a different game now though, there would be no going back, even if we wanted to. :/ Nai went back not long ago, though I think it was just a month visit.

I miss your scruffy guy, too! ;)

That's why I haven't tried to ever go back. That and all those details that really annoyed me. No soloing really, that ANYTHING after level cap was controlled by certain guilds.. the list goes on and on.
I'll keep all my fond memories, of the people like you, of what I did enjoy, and let it stay in the past. :) Hell, I'm not even playing any MMO these days. Wow is there if I need a fix.

I couldn't go back, even if I wanted to, not without starting over. A year or so back I thought I'd return for a visit, but Thistle is gone and can't be recovered. :/ One or two of the crafting mules were still there to be recovered, but they're all level 1...

Agreed though, I'll keep the good memories, which is mostly around you people. <3

The people are exactly it. Something I really missed? Skill chains. What I wouldn't give to have to do skill chains in Wow! It really made us feel like a team, especially when after a while we were so used to chaining we'd do it without even knowing we did. Oh, hey! Dark chain! ;) And all these spells would go off from the mages...

That just doesn't happen in WoW. That level of team.

I could never start over either. @.@ I had too much. Worked way, way too hard.. and I had a mere fraction what you did.

I miss you guys, too. I'm glad you're having fun with your current MMO'ing. ^^

I cannot speak to my sanity, as I'm still on FFXI and FF14 as well. ;p FF14-Cydori gets to be a Dragoon tomorrow, yay!

They had the brilliant idea to increase the level caps of the crafts. Currently they are bumping them up to 110 but people pulled some old stuff out of the DATs that's always been around but they never did anything with:

98-110?: Expert
108-120?: Authority
118-130?: Luminary
128-140?: Master
138-150?: Grandmaster
148-160?: Legend

Wow, that's both scary and really, really interesting. Some of the crafts were so hard to level, I can't imagine taking them further than 100!

I sure would like to be a Legend of crafting though.

The worst part is how hard it could be getting skillups close to 100. I can only imagine the chaos of trying to go from like 128-129. 5 million synths later...

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
YES! I think about skill chains all the time! Then I snicker at the idea of most WoW folks trying to pull them off. That really was such a good idea. It really did make the party feel like more of a team -- heck, everything about FFXI did. I suppose that's the other side of the coin: FFXI's closeness vs WoW's ability to solo everything.

It's not even gil and gear, but think about having to do the level breaks again, when there are likely so few new folks in the game. I know people solo CoP to the end now, but I cannot imagine doing that again. (Might be moot point I guess, since the then-end game CoP zones would no longer be used?)

Sometimes it's best to keep things as memories.

I suppose this will also mean new guild items perhaps? Like maybe some more weapons. I know cookie and alchemy have weapons (not counting trainee weapons) so it might be neat to get some for other crafts. Like an axe for my woodworking. Maybe complete the gear sets. So like have my gloves + body and maybe some legs and safety goggles.

Today's patch will be adding in some of the classic FF jobs: Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Bard, and Dragoon. The way it works is that you level to 30 in the corresponding FF14 class (Marauder, Pugilist, Conjuror, Thaumaturge, Archer, and Lancer - and yes, Archer -> Bard) and then do a quest that unlocks the job. The job will then essentially stack onto the class, so a Dragoon is really a Lancer with some extra added abilities, like Jump. You don't have to start over from level 1, so Cydori's 47 Lancer means she'll be a 47 Dragoon. You do have to complete quests to get your special job abilities, so hopefully they'll be fun and have good stories.

The downside to a job is that it limits abilities that can be assigned from other classes, so Dragoon Cydori can't cast Cure or Protect on herself like Lancer Cydori can. (She can, however, still use a Pugilist ability that restores HP, so she's not without self-curing.)

They are using the same three-letter abbreviations as FFXI for the jobs, and the AF armor will have the same name as the FFXI counterparts (Drachen, Valiant, Cleric's, etc.) I don't know how we'll be getting AF armor yet, whether it's a class quest piece or a dungeon drop or what.

FF14 is still very much a work in progress. It's not the poor broken game it started out as, but still needs some tuning up.

You might like crafting, though. Each craft is a class, so you get to run around town with your saw, hammer, knife, etc. You also get class quests. But they level like jobs, and there's a *lot* of xp involved, which means synthing over and over and over again. Actually, it's probably not all that different from FFXI except that you can do quests to synth, so you don't have to pay your own money for materials. You don't get to sell the finished products, but you do get some gil for it. And it's nice to be able to make your own gear; almost everything except my Lancer gear is stuff I've crafted.

Did they ever do anything with those crafting signs? This one (http://www.hot-hot-hot-catlove.com/ffxi/01-02-2008-sign.jpg). They look mighty spiffy, but they sure did cost a lot of GP.

Whole gear sets would be amazing! Then at the highest levels you could look exactly right for that profession.

Man, that sounds so good. So tempting! But as much as WoW puts me to sleep, I stay for the RP.

The three letter name thing still trips me up! I keep wanting to call WoW warriors WAR and the Death Knights DRKs.

Nice that they're bringing the armor lines (and jobs!) into 14.

Maybe one day I'll come check it out, after I've finally finished with WoW.

:D

Yeah, but we sniggered over how most of FF11's people couldn't do it either, remember? ;)
And yes, it had a lot of drawbacks. Just one more reason why I'll wear my rose colored glasses and keep the good memories, but never go back.

... Ha, true! Lots of FFXI folks couldn't either. And remember trying to set it up across languages?

And as a side note, I just used http://www.hot-hot-hot-catlove.com/ffxi/09-08-PLDdraque.jpg as an example in a thread about WoW armor. REASONABLE LOOKING ARMOR, WoW needs it so badly.

Yeah, the inconsistency in Guild Wars drove me nuts. Some classes had single-letter abbreviations, but others had two-letter ones. They really should have just used two-letter ones for all of them. Wa/Mo is just as easy as W/Mo.

I don't think they've really done anything with those other then what they had when they introduced them long ago. They did add some cross stuff with Synergy where at high levels you can make Crafting Stalls (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Tanners%27_Stall) and that increases you up to a "Mega Moglification".
