Thanksgiving Day and stuff(ing)
Nov. 28th, 2002 05:15 pmContained within: Dinner, Harry Potter, Spirit, security light (in that order)
* Dinner: Misleading title. I'm not a big fan of turkey, so I didn't have it this year. However, lack of planning left me with nothing. (Was going to have pizza, but they were closed. Was going to have Chinese, closed. Settled on Chili's... closed.) So I had some stale popcorn at noon-ish, and grumbled about being hungry till 5. Wandered into the kitchen and pondered having a turkey pot pie for dinner, but decided that would be (odd|sad|ironic), so made bacon instead. Blech. Bacon twice in a week is way, way too much. I didn't even have a clean pan, so couldn't make eggs with it again. Tomorrow I'll go get something real food-ish.
* Harry Potter: Finished the first Harry Potter book last night. While I liked it, I didn't love it, and would never rave about it to people as they did to me. 1) The characters had no descriptions. Not even basic things like hair color. They had one or two traits that were mentioned (fat, say). 2) Like the character descriptions, the characters were pretty one-dimensional to the point of being unrealistic for some of them (the spoiled kid, for example). 3) There were big parts of the storyline that were unrealistic as well. 4) Harry was too perfect. No matter those things, I am looking forward to reading the next books. They only keep doubling in size, so I hope she gets over that lack of character description, at least.
* Spirit: Watched the Spirit movie today. Liked it lots and lots. Much like the Lion King, but the animals didn't talk with words. That the communication was handled as a horse more likely would (head tosses, rears, real horse noises) made it a much more mature movie. (It also had some unrealistic points, like the jump at the end, but I can overlook that.)
* Light: I never updated on that bright security light situation. Last weekend they came and fixed it (even though I never complained). I suppose one of my neighbors did. While it's still not totally dark in my bedroom at night, it is much, much, much better.
