(Okay, I'm not short and I'm not assuming any of you are short, I'm just being silly.)

Ooooh what a beeeautiful moooorning!

While it's odd to be happy on a Monday morning, I am! After not eating much on Sunday (no breakfast, some noodles for lunch, no dinner), I stopped at McDonalds and got some breakfast today. MMMMM. Good! (I won't eat McDonalds food, other than their breakfast sandwiches.) Not only did I get a good sandwich with (mmm mmm mmm) bacon, I got a nice Diet Coke. Can't go wrong with starting your morning with food (Bacon!) and soda!

I'm feeling oddly possessive of the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 group, and so I'm really glad to see lots of new people writing for it. However, sadly, once again I don't feel much like writing for it myself. (Is it like the MUSH thing? Where when you're actually working for a group you no longer take part as a player/non-running-person and so don't have fun anymore?) I forced out a story last week, maybe eventually I'll get something out this week. The challenge has a lot of potential (any character's memory in a Pensieve), so maybe I'll get struck with some idea to write about.

Last week's challenge was to write a story for The The Quibbler.

Title: Strike Looms: Wizarding World to be Crippled?
In-Story author/reporter: Tawnee Oul
House: Slytherin
Word Count: 100

--------

The Quibbler has received exclusive information on an impending strike, one which will bring the wizarding world to its knees! Armed only with a charm to interpret Owlise into English, this reporter met with the leader of the Owl Freedom Front (OFF!).

"Hooo! Hooo! We've been serving humans for too long! Carrying their letters and packages! And what do we get in return? Crusts of bread and scraps of food! Hooo! We're not going to take it anymore!"

Our interview concluded with this chilling threat:

"We'll be paid, or get used to the taste of owl droppings in your food!"

I'm broken in some fundamental way. While reading [livejournal.com profile] tersa's weekend update, I was sitting here just boggling at the idea of normal people being able to make food. Make pickles! Not buy them and eat them out of a jar! Make fish! (Not that I'd eat it myself, but still impressive!) And [livejournal.com profile] mallen makes jams! (Ate more of the peach on Saturday. Mmm.) To me it's like magic: you have all these un-useful things (flour, salt, spices, whatever) and you can combine them and actually make food. Just amazing.

And, lastly, (some short post this turned out to be!) perhaps the best news: Recall a month or so back I was ranting/worrying about rent, saying it was higher than the rent for other one-bedroom apartments in the area? Well, that's still true, but since two people moved out of the complex, I was finally able to get a figure for rent on the new places: The rent for taking out a 12 month lease (slightly less than for taking a six month lease) is exactly what I'm paying now.

Huh.

So while we're still paying more than the area average, so long as I'm not paying more than other people living in the same complex, I'll not protest any longer. The rent *is* higher than average, but the apartments are better (quieter, one story), so I guess it's worth it. And that the empty apartments fill up fast backs that up, I guess.
