A more thoughtful meme
Oct. 14th, 2003 02:09 pmOther than the first one, these are some interesting questions that made me think about the answers. So click and learn how to drive me out of a room, about my illegal activities, why I keep AA batteries next to my bed, and many other things!
But seriously, the first question is kind of silly.
1. Your name spelled backwards.
I'll use my LJ name:
Resahc-eltsiht
(And boy, what a
peppygrowlithe question!)
2. Where were your parents born?
Mother: Somewhere in Maine. I don't recall exactly where.
Father: Somewhere in Germany. Same as above.
3. What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?
The final GetBackers ep, #49. I have so many of them left to watch, I haven't needed to download anything else since then.
4. What's your favorite restaurant?
Giovanni's. An Italian place with the best (only) real NY style pizza in this area. Paper thin crust, yummy cheese. Letting the grease drip off is a requirement.
5. Last time you swam in a pool?
*snort* Years and years ago. In the house I grew up in we had one, so then. I won't swim in public pools, they're dirty. (Yes, I know they put chlorine in them, but you're trusting someone who is probably paid minimum wage to get it right? Ours in the apartment complex I'm currently living in was closed down by the health department just last year because it was "unfit for human use", there were actually signs on it saying that!) While I'd really like to swim for exercise, people (kids especially) are just too darned dirty for me to join them in a warm water "bath".
6. Have you ever been in a school play?
On stage? No. I loved working on the crew though.
7. How many kids do you want?
That would be 'zero'.
8. Type of music you dislike most?
While there are a few songs from it I can somewhat stand, country is about the only style that can drive me out of a room/building.
9. Are you registered to vote?
Yep. I vote in all the major elections, even though I think it's a big waste. (Hello, Mr. Bush. Enjoying your win without a majority vote?)
10. Do you have cable?
TV and Internet, yes. And like that old song says '200 channels and nothing on'. While I get, what, about 300 channels, I watch maybe a handful of them. Food Network, Cartoon Network, HBO (HBO2/HBOfamily/HBOwhatever), and sometimes the network ones.
11. Have you ever ridden on a moped?
Nope.
12. Ever prank call anybody?
Many times (in a short period of time), all to the same person:
When I was a young kid, I prank called this girl who had been my friend, but wasn't anymore. Over and over and over, day and night, because she had done something to annoy me and I broke off our friendship. I was a vengeful child.
13. Ever get a parking ticket?
No, but when I was younger I got a number of speeding tickets. I used to drive too fast, but now I tend more towards 'little old lady'. Not overly slow, but not more than 5-10 MPH over the speed limit.
14. Would you go bungee jumping or sky diving?
When I was a kid, I wanted to do these things on a daily basis. Now that I'm grown up and smarter, I'd say 'LIKE HELL NO WAY!' to an offer to do them. "Death by smushing" is not the way I want to go.
(Wow, there seems to be no #15.)
16. Do you have a garden?
Well... sort of. I own a garden, but it's sort of by default. My mother loves to garden, so when she flies to see me twice a year she plants tons of plants. I water them and try to keep them alive until she comes back, but I'm pretty bad at it.
17. What's your favorite comic strip?
There's only one that I read (Jack), and I really don't like it much, so I'll say none. Don't ask me why I keep reading it when I don't like it -- habit mostly, I guess.
18. Do you really know all the words to your national anthem?
Eh, no. Most of them. But then, I never hear the song either, so.
19. Bath or Shower, morning or night?
Shower in the morning. Sometimes on lazy weekends it's more towards afternoons, but morning is the norm.
20. Best movie you've seen in the past month?
Hm. I've seen three movies in the last month (all downloaded). Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Underworld, and Finding Nemo. I didn't like any of them much, but I guess out of that list I liked Finding Nemo the best. And darned it, I keep quoting the movie! Maybe I liked it more than I realize.
21. Favorite pizza topping?
Extra cheese. I'd order 'extra extra cheese' sometime, but they'd probably laugh at me for that. Anyway, the guys at Giovanni's know me and I think they already put more than usual on for me. I love cheese.
22. Chips or popcorn?
Popcorn! Popcorn! Cheese and popcorn make up a large part of my diet.
23. What color lipstick do you usually wear?
I've only worn it a few times in my life. Hate how it feels on my lips. When I wore it, it was, uh, pink? Red? Some normal color. I don't think I even own any anymore.
24. Have you ever smoked peanut shells?
Huh? Is that something kids are doing now? I've never smoked anything, and if I was going to start, it would not be with peanut shells.
25. Have you ever been in a beauty pageant?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. *ahem* Sorry. No.
26. Orange Juice or apple?
Orange.
27. Who was the last person you went out to dinner with and where did you dine?
Co-workers, at a Mexican place.
28. Favorite type of chocolate bar?
Uh. I don't really have a favorite one... Snickers are great when you're hungry (lots of peanuts in it), and I like dark chocolate in general. Dove melts nicely in your mouth.
29. When was the last time you voted at the polls?
The California recall election, earlier this month. I have the 'I Voted' sticker on my keyboard. (Not stuck to it, just because it's floating around on my desk.)
30. Last time you ate a homegrown tomato?
I'm not a tomato fan.
31. Have you ever won a trophy?
A couple of them in day camp. Silly things like 'most ecology minded' (because, unlike other kids, I wouldn't throw my trash on the ground). When I was very, very young (like 6-7), I played softball and my team won one (Go Cougars!), but I only remember that because my mother kept the trophy.
32. Are you a good cook?
Well... I've never burnt myself to death on the stove, stuck my hand into the moving blender, or licked the toaster coils while it was plugged in. Does that count?
33. Do you know how to pump your own gas?
Me? Pump it myself? Heavens no! Why, I just sit around and wait for one of the fieldhands to come by and put the petro into our horseless wagon!
Of course I do.
34. Ever order an article from an infomercial?
No, but when I was a kid I really, really, really wanted the Pocket Fisherman.
35. Sprite or 7-up?
Do I have to pick one or the other? The only soda I drink is Diet Coke. I'm sure Sprite and 7-up would both taste the same to me.
36. Have you ever had to wear a uniform to work? how about school?
Work, yeah. Sort of. We had to wear scrubs at a number of my vet-related jobs.
37. Last thing you bought at a pharmacy?
Spaghetti sauce! Odd, huh? The ones around here sell food stuff as well, and it was on sale so I got some bottles of it.
38. Ever throw up in public?
When I was a kid in grade school, yeah. And, well, the one time I got drunk in college. I threw up a whole lot, among other thing.
39. Would you prefer being a millionaire or find true love?
Being a millionaire, no question. Money may not buy happiness, but I'm happy as-is, so money ... Well, you know... if I did have a million dollars, I'd just put it into the bank and leave it there. It really wouldn't make a difference to my life. However, I still don't want to find true love, as that would then require me living with someone (I would assume), and I can't deal with that.
I like my freedom more than becoming a millionaire or finding true love.
40. Do you believe in love at first sight?
No. I'll buy 'true lust at first sight', but love takes getting to know the other person (I'd think).
41. Ever call a 1-900 number?
Once. When I was in college I called an adult one to see what it was like. It was really sucky and boring, and I laughed in the middle of it. (It was recorded, so I didn't offend an operator or anything.)
42. Can ex's be friends?
Yes.
43. Who was the last person you visited in a hospital?
Um. I haven't visited anyone, that I can recall. Likely I have, but I just don't remember it.
44. Did you have a lot of hair when you were a baby?
Yep, lots and lots of blonde hair. It made my (German) father proud.
45. What did you eat today?
Cheerios for breakfast, a (sucky) salad from Wendy's for lunch. I have some nuts for when I get hungry later, and I'm drinking a Diet Coke now.
46. What's your all time favorite Saturday Night Live Character?
Funny how the wording of the question gives away the opinion of the person who wrote the question. Your "all time favorite" character implies you've had a lot of favorites and you have to pick from among them. For the last many years, SNL has sucked so much ass it's painful. The only thing I've liked it in were some of the animated cartoons, so I'll say that. (I don't recall the old old SNL stuff.)
47. What was the name of your first pet?
We had two when I was born. A cat named Ivan and a dog named Pepper. Both were put to sleep while I was still young. My parents tried to hide that from me, but I knew about it at the time.
48. What is in your purse?
Though I'm an adult and in the workforce, I carry a backpack, not a purse. It's full of... junk. Lots of assorted paperwork, my wallet, some old gum, my glasses (I'd be blind if I lost a contact), keys, assorted stuff.
49. Favorite thing to do before bedtime?
I always play little games before bed. First it was on Gameboy, now Gameboy Advance. Watching the tiny animation makes me sleepy, especially when it is a repetitive/boring game like Pokemon. I'm currently playing FFT:A, which isn't as good at making me sleepy (it requires too much planning and plotting). I'm enjoying it a lot though, even if I'm sleeping less.
Because of this, I keep a lot of AA batteries around my bed. I need to get rid of them before my mother comes out, otherwise she might make incorrect assumptions...
50. What is one thing you are grateful for today?
The biggest thing is: That I have a job. A job that is, if not "well paying", then at least lets me live without money worries. A job where I do not have to stand up on my feet any more than I want to. A job with set, non-rotating hours. A job where (most days) I have a good amount of free time. Here in Silicon Valley, if I ever quit this job, the very next day there would be literally *hundreds* of people lined up for it. As much as I don't like my job itself, I'm very, very glad I have it.
But seriously, the first question is kind of silly.

I'll use my LJ name:
