It's been years since I've done this much reading in one "sitting". I'm finding the physical end of this (trying to find comfortable positions to remain in for hours) is getting to me more than my eyes.

So I'm about a third of the way through the book, and I'm finding ... not much. It's quite amazing, almost 300 pages in, and so little has happened. Lots of new information, but it seems like the plot is not advancing at all.

I'm really quite unhappy with everything surrounding Ron. I do hope she'll explain why he's a prefect... especially because he's a terribly sucky one. I knew he was going to be a Keeper, but... it seems so... unnecessary to the story.

Fred and George, on the other hand, I'm liking. Was it AWS that showed them as being rather dark? Using Harry to get what they wanted? Yes, I think it was. Seems like they're doing it on a grander scale here, using their places at the school. Liking that, yes yes.

I do like that the tone of the book is so much darker. However, the 'No one in the school believes Harry, everyone talks about him behind his back' thing is getting really old. Doesn't this happen in every book?

I'm liking the change in Sirius. I think I forgot to mention this in my last post, but I love his house and the painting of his mother. And the house elf heads, and Kreacher. Nice touches there.

And the biggest thing I've always disliked about the books: The Slytherins are way, way, way too one-dimensional. Really, they *are* good for more than standing around and snickering. Mutter.

Now, to answer the replies to my last post, then back to reading. I won't get the book finished today, but I'm hoping to get it done by tomorrow.

Huh, re Sirius. He's really coming off as a bit of a airheaded jerk here, a bit like the fanon idiot that I don't like (the one who rants when Harry and Snape get together). Especially the bit at the end of ch. 14 with him pouting about Harry not wanting to risk his (Sirius's) life! I don't like that a bit. (I do like the house/mother/elf stuff though.)

This is exactly as far as I've gotten. Time to read more, I guess. I don't think I'll be finished before Tuesday or so as I'm trying to space things out and incorporate real life into my life.

Ah, I see Sirius as rather self-centered and somewhat thoughtless (the latter probably not on purpose), so he's fitting right in with the Sirius in my head.

I'm reading straight through, other than a break for the bathroom, food, or sleep. I said this in a comment to someone else, and the wording struck me as odd: "I want to get it done and out of the way." That's strange, but it's really how I feel. I disliked most of the first half of the book, and it wasn't until the final quarter of it that I'm even approaching liking it... If OoP was a fic, it would be the kind you don't bother bookmarking, and if the IE window closes and so you lose the page and don't get to finish the story it wouldn't be an overly big deal. It's not *bad*, but in my opinion it's hard-pressed to reach the 'good' line.

Back to reading. 200-something pages left.
