I've figured out Wolf's Rain...
Jan. 3rd, 2004 06:46 pmAfter four straight recap eps with not one bit of new material (in less than 20 eps! So that's almost a quarter of the series thus far is total recap!) the real crack-smoking has started. Introducing... the Native Americans! Out of the total blue, the main characters have run across a tribe of Native Americans, and my ... "liking" (too strong of a word) for this series has gone way, way, way down. However, this was also the last piece of the puzzle that I needed to figure out why the hell this series was made at all.
Here in America, it seems many teenagers go through a period of loving wolves and Native Americans. They're the "cool" things for a few years in teens' lives. Assuming this trend is also seen in Japan, it would totally explain this sorry series. I think typical teens would rather have "Oh, wow! He's a wolf! And look at his cool scar!" than actual character development.
Bah. Well, only six more eps and then I can delete this mess. I really should hunt down some reviews/recs of this series -- I'm really curious as to what people like in it enough to recommend it to someone. The animation is pretty enough, the music is good, but the story? The characterizations? Utter crap.
Oh well...
