I became a white mage because I wanted to be able to help folks. I wanted to run around and heal them when they were hurt, cast helpful spells on them, etc. One of the most helpful spells is raise (bring someone back from the dead), so when I finally got it, I was very very happy.

I don't raise people hoping to get paid (not that I've ever been offered anything), and I don't do it to be thanked (though that would be nice if it ever happened), so I suppose what happened last night was just too much to expect.

I'm currently stuck in Mhaura. I'm dealing with a series of quests which require RL hours of standing around doing nothing between each one (!!! exactly my point yesterday: the running around and hoop-jumping the game requires).

Background: On the ferry ride to Mhaura, the Sea Horror showed up. The boat was full of people. It was a bloody mess. Every five or ten seconds, another person died. Either I was the only white mage on the ship or the others were in hiding. I raised as I could, and when the ship docked I raised the people on land. Four of them were from the same party -- that's important to the story. Out of eight or so raises, I got one single thank you. Total.

Back to the story: So in one of the three hour periods of waiting, I decided to try to go get another clay imprint. I knew Buburimu Peninsula must be about the same level as the Dunes (which I have never had problems with), so I left the city, cast Sneak on myself, and set out at a run. A few moments later, and an unseen goblin cast Bind on me. Arg! Goblins are bad! It attacked and attacked while I was stuck. I used the /help command (my first time ever). No one came. Eventually Bind wore off, but the stupid (smart) monster cast it on me again. I survived the battle (thankfully), but decided to run back to the city instead of continuing on to get the imprint. Seconds later, just over a hill, I ran into the party I had raised. The party was standing around, doing nothing. The party who I had raised four of the six members did not respond to my /help call, even though it was in the same damned area. A goblin. Six of them, warrior-looking types. They could have killed a goblin in their sleep. Hell, any single one of their party members could have likely taken the darned thing in just a second or two!

Why the hell do I bother? What in the world made me think that helping random people would do any good? What do these idiots think, not helping someone who saved their asses? What is wrong with people? Hell, what's wrong with me for having expected anything other than what happened?

Bah.
