I suck (FFXI)

I believe I must have set a new record: I had my airship pass one full day... then lost it.

Boy oh boy, do I suck!

(Non-players: You need fame with different areas and groups. It does things like get new quests offered to you and lower prices. You get fame by doing quests for that group/area.)

I decided to start working on my Tenshodo fame by moving the contraband goods. I was planning on spending all of yesterday evening moving the goods and finding the passengers who lost items -- a semi-fun way to make fame, plus good money! I picked up my first load of Tenshodo goods, got on the airship and rode to Jeuno. As soon as I stepped off, custom officials pulled me aside, searched me, and found the goods. Bam! Easy as that, I lost my airship pass.

I wasn't overly worried at that point, as I had heard that you only lose it for an hour or so. But an hour passed and I didn't get it back. Then another hour. Then a third hour. Finally I logged off to check online, and found that it resets at midnight in Japan (8 AM PST). BAH! So I wouldn't be able to ride the airship all night!

Now tell me why, when I've only had the pass one full day, I suddenly felt like I couldn't play the game at all if I didn't have the pass? I wanted to go to Windy, but I sure as heck wasn't about to deal with teleporting and then running! Those days were supposed to be over!

So I spent the night puttering around and doing nothing. I tried to craft a little, but it was just throwing money away. (The items were too much above me, I needed guild support ... but the guilds are in Windy.)

So from now on I'm going to do the moving-goods quest last thing before I log off. Be darned if I'm going to lose my airship pass again when I may need it!

I wish I understood how this darned game could be so frustrating and annoying, yet it somehow keeps me wanting to come back and spend all my time on it. Darned game! I'll beat you yet!

It makes me very very sad to see questions like "Do you believe in evolution?". That's like asking if you believe that the world is round! I don't understand, I don't understand, I don't understand.

A year or so back, my mother told me she believed in angels. She believes that angels exist and sometimes show up in day to day lives of living people. I nearly fell out of my chair. While I knew a lot of people share that belief, I just cannot understand it. If angels did exist, why wouldn't there be some proof? Any proof? It's the same thing as ghosts, psychic powers, and all that.

I took a class in college, and one of the main ideas I took away from it was "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof". God, angels, ghosts, unicorns, UFOs, all those things are mighty extraordinary claims, so where's the proof? How can people just close their eyes, cover their ears, go "la la la la I can't hear you!" and believe in something there's no proof for?

Sigh. I just don't understand.
