Is it just me or is LJ mega-slow lately? Pages won't load for me, time out, and things like that. Takes forever to get stuff done here...

ExpandSure was a lot of stuff happening in Lost last night! )

So I logged in late to FFXI to take advantage of the new moon/Windsday. I really shouldn't have bothered. Since I have a kazillion non-HQ gloves left from the last new moon crafting, I made only hats and body pieces this time.

Total synths: 17
Total HQs: 3
Total failures: 6 (Total losses: 3)

There is something very, very, very wrong there. One of two things is happening:

1) When cross-crafting, the chance of HQ is less/half.
2) The listed caps on the items are wrong.

The problem is is that the first time I did this, I got the "correct" 60% HQ! And as I did about 60 synths, it's not like it was just a small bit of randomness...

I can't put into words how much this is driving me crazy. It doesn't make sense! The world (and the in-game world) follows sets of rules. UFOs do not exist. The Loch Ness Monster does not exist. Thunder isn't produced because god is bowling. FFXI crafting is supposed to HQ 50% of the time if you're 31 levels over cap and craft on the correct day of the new moon. These are supposed to be truths!

...that or it's proof that I shouldn't believe in that one scientific study done on FFXI crafting. I don't understand how the hell people can believe "the direction you face is important" is some sort of known truth when these massively larger things are unknown and unable to be explained. "Face X direction while crafting!" is the Atkins diet of the FFXI world. Bah.

I just got (legal, of course!) copies of the various FFXI soundtracks. Let me tell you, hearing the battle music while at work is the oddest thing! I swear, I'm conditioned to it. First time I played it: I inhaled sharply, leaned forward, and grinned. My heart beat faster.

I should probably be scared it has that sort of effect on me, but instead I think it's pretty darned cool. :)

Oh, and I posted on TheCraft's site about the HQing Noct issue. Hopefully they'll have some interesting stuff to say about the situation.

*restarts the MP3* *eyes dart around, looking for something to swing massive sword at*

I have such a love-hate relationship with this game. :)

Edit: Heehee. The Yuhtunga Jungle theme should have things like "GOB TRAIN TO ZONE!" and the sounds of gob bombs going off over the music. Heehee. Listening to all this is making me all bouncy! Wanna go play now! Not sit at work for 6.5 more hours!
