Please be a fast day! Weekend needed! Please and thank you!

FFXI stuff:

Yesterday's post about killing stuff would have been better with screenshots, but I hadn't had them edited at the time, so you here they are now! (None of the screenshots are full sized. All have been resized to 800xsomething.)

(...gah. I'm listening to FFXI MP3s cause I can't stand hearing co-worker's crappy music a moment longer, and it just got to the song that's in the saddest CoP cutscenes! *sniffle* Those cutscenes were so sad and so wonderful!)

So as I said, in testing out what I can do as DRK, I've been killing new tough(er) stuff.

By chance I saw one of these ugly beasts, an Axe Beak, so I attacked it! Aren't they just horrible looking? Like a cross between a turkey and a dinosaur! It's a little hard to see it, but they have purple and red on them, which clashes and makes them all the uglier. (Nothing dropped when I killed this one, but I did steal a giant bird feather. The next day I killed another and got a piece of meat off it.)

"Awwww! Somebody needs a hug!" Goobbue are very big and very ugly, so ugly they're almost cute! They have three rows of sharp teeth though, and their mouths open wide enough to swallow you whole! (And they have butts, too. It's funny!)

Raptors, evil raptors. They're fast, nasty creatures, and at least for slow-DRK me, annoying to kill. I've killed maybe 15 of them in the last two days, and got only one single drop (a skin). As tough and fast as they are, you'd think they'd drop more! (And I hate their little wings, they'd look much better without them.) While the pose this one is in may look silly, the attack isn't: It looks/feels like they're attempting to claw you from your face down to your groin. (OW OW OW OW!)

Yay! Coeurl! Coeurls are really, really pretty, sort of like funky cheetahs. I probably posted a screenshot of them before, but this is a cool shot: Me killing one with a critical blow. (Love my scythe!)

So I went and farmed coeurl again last night, but it didn't go as well. For half the time there was another farmer there, and the space/number of pops really weren't enough to support two farmers. Eventually he left and I had the place to myself, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I had the day before. Eventually I went south and killed raptors and looked for the NM Axe Beak (no idea if I could kill it, but I wanted to try!), but got no drops and found no NMs.

Just over 7,000 moat carp turned in. For me, it's continuing to make more sense to buy them than to fish them up. I'd rather use my (very limited) online time to farm than to stand around and fish. I have no clue how much money I've spent on this so far, especially since I'm making/spending money across five characters now. It's really odd how it works out: Fishingbot and Yagudokisses only make money, spend no money. Katerwaul only spends it and makes nothing. Chaser both makes and spends it. It's like gil flows in a circle through my various logins...

I'm looking forward to the weekend, though wishing it was going to be less busy. Partying as thief on Saturday, and usual Dark Knight static Sunday. I wish I could get enough levels ahead on thief so I could forget about it for a while. (Heck, I wish I could get enough levels ahead to stop worrying that it's going to become gimped during our static leveling. :p ) Maybe after this LS party on Saturday I'll put real time into finding random parties to level it... (Hate random parties though.)

Oh well, happy Friday (or Windsday, as the FFXI Firefox extension is telling me it is) everyone!

It's a slow day at work, so this morning I looked at every screenshot in my /ffxi folder. Two things struck me:

1) I giggled at how impressed I was over certain common stuff. ("Eee! I killed a bunny!" and "Oh my, what's that big building? It looks so cool! *points at crag*").

2) I didn't believe this at first, so I hit my LJ to confirm it: I've been playing FFXI almost a year now. Heck, I've confirmed it and I STILL don't believe that! I started on 4/2. How the heck has it been a year? (And my highest job is only 39!) Almost a year. I can't believe it at all.

It's funny reading all my old posts from the start of the game, but it's somewhat less funny to see that I'm still saying the same things. Example, from 4/5/04:

"Can't wait to play tonight! Though, to be honest, being at work is sort of a nice break. Generally, nothing tries to kill me here!"

Ha! I said that just last week! (Well, the "work = FFXI break" part, not the monster part.)

Game-wise, it's almost distressing to see how hard and slow it was to level WHM. It's a good thing I started with that job, because if I had known better I never would have leveled it! It's amusing to see how badly I used to get lost (doubly so since I still get lost in those areas now!).

Oh well, back to reading. Is it 5 yet? Wanna go home and play!

:)

Still reading posts from my first month of playing FFXI. Some of the more amusing (or foreshadowing) ones:

From a post made 20 days after starting FFXI. Hey, at least I stayed true to my likes! :p

"It's odd, but my game focus really could stay on crafting things. I need higher levels (job-wise) to make crafting easier (if I could ride a damned chocobo I could get between cities so much easier!), but really: Once I hit level 25 (so I can use the raise spell), I'd be happy enough. (Though those teleport spells at 36 could be good money makers, too...) I'd much rather get to level 75 in fishing than in white mage'ing."

And a couple days later:

"I was looking at a new craft this morning. Leatherworking. See, I read that you could make the fishing clothing yourself, and I paid so much for mine, so I figured it would be a profitable thing to learn." (Ha ha ha. *snicker*)

[livejournal.com profile] gbeans, this is from a post written just days after starting. It'll probably be the same reaction to your new hat that you'll get from other newbies.

"OH OH OH! And I saw a guy with the coolest hat-thing! I was too impressed to even make a screenshot. He had a sabertooth tiger's "head" on his! Its fur was nearly black too, so it looked soooo cool! Oh, I want it! It had giant fangs on either side of his face! I bet it must be something rare, because I never saw one before... (Dollars to donuts, I couldn't equip the darned thing even if I owned one, but I can still wish for it!)"

And yeah, I do still want that hat! (Need to check if DRKs can ever wear them...)

[livejournal.com profile] loneguardian, this is from a post after I'd been playing for exactly one week. And shut up in advance. :)

"Last screenshot: Too bad it was dark out, but look how cool Dragoons look! So purple! I love it."

And for [livejournal.com profile] loneguardian and [livejournal.com profile] kelen, it's kind of funny to recall that there was a time that I didn't know who Draque was!

"A much better and more productive day today than yesterday. It started with [livejournal.com profile] loneguardian, myself, and (someone else whose name I forgot) changing jobs and going out and beating on things." (I recall that buying the one piece of armor and the sword for that trip broke me! It's amusing to read about how little money I had!)

...it's still not 5 PM yet, is it?
