I had forgotten how fulfilling leveling a craft is, and what a leveling day yesterday was!
I decided to desynth eels to level alchemy, but to do that I needed to catch the eels. (They're 12K/stack at the AH, and you need two per desynth -- way, way too expensive.) Since I was in Bastok (and needed to stay there for the guilds) I went to the South Gus coastline with my Lu's and a shrimp lure. While I did catch about four stacks of eels, I also got two stacks of bream. *boggle* They're 25 levels above my fishing level! I only got two skill-ups, but the first one was enough to make me hit fishing 60. Yay!
After desynthing the eels, I hit alchemy 58. Woo woo!
I quickly got tired/bored/annoyed of fishing, but had no clue what else I should do. I decided to go into the Maze to farm gobs and worms (for flint), but after outpost teleporting to Bubu, I decided I didn't feel like running "all the way" to the Maze (heh), so I killed goblins in Bubu instead. (I sort of thought because they were tougher they might give better drops, but that seemed not to be the case). For two hours work I got 2 goblin masks and 1 goblin armor... and lost all 3 while desynthing them. Luckily I got two water eles and an air ele, so the time wasn't totally wasted. (I even beat a RNG/THF (using flee!) to the air ele, and he stood there waiting to see if it would kill me so he could take it, so that win was especially sweet.)
I came back to town on Fireday so I could harvest my plants... only to find I had no space to do so. I muled quickly, then picked them. 5 stacks of fire crystals plus a few singles! Yay!
Draque needed some scorp arrowheads, so I made those for him and got two bonecraft levels! Bringing me up to 50! Yay! Yay!
This morning things went less well: I needed to re-plant my pots on Waterday... which started about 15 minutes after I needed to be at work. *CRY* I pondered going to work late so I could plant, but I couldn't force myself to do that. Damn me for being reliable... As crazy as it sounds, I briefly considered getting a laptop just so I could do FFXI stuff from work (not farming or really active stuff, but chatting and plants and crafting), but that's pushing things a little more than I want to. But I still hate everyone without jobs who can play all day! :)
Yagudokisses's plants were glowing this morning, so I picked them on Fireday. Same results as Thistle's last night: 50% of the plants gave fire crystals, giving me another 5 stacks and some singles. Woo woo woo!
I've been having so much success with gardening that I'm considering setting up another mule to grow things. Alchemy uses lots of fire crystals, so it's really, really, really handy to be able to grow them. The amusing thing is that I returned to gardening saying I would never, ever force myself to do that whole "plant on X day, feed on Y day, harvest on Z day" thing, but I find myself having to do that to get the good results I want.
