Mid-week!

Yay Wednesday. Week's halfway over! Woo!

My mother confirmed her vacation dates last night, so I bought her plane tickets to fly out here. (Static people: This means I'll miss a weekend in June for sure. She'd be happy to let me play if I wanted to, but I'd 1) feel bad for playing when she's only out here for a week, and 2) wouldn't be able to concentrate at all.) The vacation will be especially nice because I'll have more vacation days before she arrives and after she leaves. With the long weekend, I'll have about 2.5 weeks off. I've never had that long of a vacation in, well, ever!

Walking was a bitch this morning. I think my period is sneaking up on me. My joints all ache before it hits, which makes exercising a pain. Not to mention, it makes me exhausted even if I do nothing. Odd, huh? I wonder what would make me tired before it arrives?

All this week I've been logging off an hour early and getting to sleep that extra hour. Six and a half hours is way way way different than five and a half of sleep (especially when it's mostly unbroken). It's nice not being so exhausted that even thinking is hard. (Unfortunately, I suppose when I stop being bored of FFXI I'll go back to my normal bedtime. Right now I go to bed because there's nothing on the game I need/want to do.)

And speaking of FFXI, heh heh heh. I got a funny screenshot last night. Unseen by the others waiting for Eco to start, Ead and I shared a secret touch. *snicker* Even the position of our heads is funny.

I'm still muchly amused by wearing my panty-subligar everywhere. Lots of people do /disgusted or /shocked at me, but a number of folks (mostly hume males in subligar...) /cheer me and add "{subligar} Yay!" or something like that. Subligar pride! Woo! (Heh, I think I'll make that into a LJ interest.)

I've not worked on woodworking in days, but I might pick it up again soon. First though! Tonight! I must must must get ready for CoP 3-5 on Friday.

If you've not seen it yet, S-E has posted the stuff in this month's update.

I've read the list twice now, and I'm sort of ... not exactly disappointed, but "meh" about it. I see nothing big related to me, and nothing big that'll hurt me. (And the XP chart just confuses me. People are talking about various ways of reading it, but to me it looks like the end number to reach 75 remains the same. Some people are saying it's the area under the line that counts, but...)

The "low level armor storing" thing is nearly useless for me. Can't store HQed stuff? Can't store signed stuff? Well, just about every set I use has at least one item that's one or the other...

I just read through the list again, and I'm really almost confused at how little there is that will impact me. Maybe one of the new items will be something I need? Maybe one of the new synthing/desynthing recipes? Who knows...

Yes, yes, it annoys the hell out of me that the LS endlessly craps on the DRK job, so usually I don't take part in beating that dead horse, but this was too amusing to pass up.

Apparently Sasuke was a Dark Knight!

I needed that snicker in as bad as this work day is going. I suspect the FFXI update (which I started over lunchtime) timed out, too. 20 minutes (while I was home) = not a single bit downloaded. Not holding my breath that things will have improved while I was away...

You're telling me you cannot come up with a better way of dealing with version updates? I changed my lunchtime at work so I could come home and start it... but of course it timed out and it wanted me to click buttons to make it try again. (Why? YOUR servers timed out a process I started, so WHY do you think that I might not want to have it try again? If it times out, why not have it just start the damned process again on its own? Why do you FORCE people to sit at their damned computers to try to make this happen?)

I got home three hours ago. Three fucking hours. And I'm still sitting here.

It takes many tries to get the version to check. 95% of the time that times out so it STARTS OVER FROM THE BEGINNING. On the very rare occasion the version check actually finishes, the download times out 98% of the time... which requires you to start at the beginning, with the version check.

You are honestly and seriously telling me that you could not come up with a better system than this?

Well yay, now the whole POL window is frozen. I'm going to have to X out of it, then the damned thing will cheerfully tell me to use the correct process for logging out, otherwise data could be lost.

S-E, why does it seem like everything you do is intended to make me hate this game? Guess what. You're succeeding.

Edit: Four hours of sitting here, trying and getting no where. Why is it that the one single time it got through the version check in the last hour, it failed the second it tried to start downloading, and had to start at the BEGINNING? It just checked the version a second ago, nothing changed other than the connection timing out...

I swear, the programmers/server admin/planners should be beaten. This could be handled so much better. More servers through the US and JP, some of the files downloaded days ago, but most importantly: WHEN THE PROCESS TIMES OUT, RESTART ON ITS OWN.

And no, typing in all caps is not making me feel any better at all. :(

Edit2: Yay. Five hour mark. Hitting "retry" over and over and over. Almost 9 PM. What a damned waste of the night this is. (But on the plus side, at least I didn't have to figure out anything to do online tonight! Bah...)

Edit3: Going on six hours. Six fucking hours. I have never, ever experienced a wait on updates this bad. And in the last two hours, how much progress have I made? I've only reached the download screen twice. Twice. "FFXI: When an in-game grind isn't enough!"
