Rambling (FFXI)

thistlechaserBest reason for leveling alchemy: It gives me something to do! No longer do I have to log on and go "Meh, what do I feel like doing tonight? Nothing I have to do, nothing I want to do...". Especially since the static group isn't meeting for the next two weeks, I really had nothing that needed to be done. Now I can just keep farming all the stuff I need to level it.
As I mentioned on the LS, drops sucked big time last night. I'm really, really strongly suspecting that moon phase (or day or something) affects drops and/or TH. There's no other way to explain the big difference in results: On Saturday I farmed bees for 2-ish hours, ended up with 4 stacks of wax. Last night I farmed bees for 4+ hours and got 2 stacks. Double the time, half the drops! (Same place, same job, same /THF, same everything.)
Farming in the Canyon sure is nice, because I can one-shot just about everything with my xbow (even though I'm using the weakest/cheapest bolts). Very handy not just for fast killing, but so I can count how many things I killed. (350 bees and saplings last night!) I'm really glad I decided to skill up xbow, because farming with a scythe would suck so much ass: It's just way way too slow. You can't kill something then run up to the next one and kill it, you have a multi-second delay. That may not sound like much, but it is. My peachy keen Ead-signed crossbow fires off nearly as fast as I can hit my macro.
I'm up to 18 in alchemy. Done with poison potions, about to start silent oil. Tonight I might try farming slime oil, but I suspect I'll do better buying it.
Must go to Jeuno tonight, too. Need to get more powder for Friday's run to Psx'whatever. (I have 4 pieces of powder left, but strongly suspect I'll need more than that. Better having too much than too little!)
I decided to give in to my lust and change my moogle into Wolfgang. This morning before work I hunted around and found the model viewer, poked around at it, then downloaded a much better one. It had a list of NPCs you could look at! ...but Wolfgang wasn't on it, bah. When I have time, I'll have to poke at it and see if it'll let you browse through the folders and see all the .dat files. I did check out how I'd look in DRK AF though, and eee'ed happily over it. (Though oddly, it felt more like a spoiler than looking at all the NPCs I hadn't encountered yet...) I tried to see how I'd look in DRK AF and holding a gun, but it seemed not to let me. (The gun remained on the ground by my feet.) It's possible I just hadn't found the "range pose", I had only 15 or so minutes total to fool around with it. Still, it's quite an amazing tool.
