Since I'm tired of stepping over the Japanese Snack Bag o'Doom, I decided it's time to review another candy!

But tonight it's going to be different.

No rotten orange peels.

No salt-coated jellies.

Today we have... cuteness. I have no idea what it's called, but it has pictures of animals picking and eating grapes on it, and the word "gummi", so we'll call it Gummi Grapevines!

Winking dogs don't lie. Little forest creatures do not eat bad things. Kittens and raccoons this cute will not lead me wrong. I trust in this. Kittens can do no evil.

The package has almost no English on it. Just "gummi" on the front and a URL on the back (http://www.meiji.co.jp). Still, I'm feeling good about this one. Tonight we don't need a list of ingredients!

I cut open the outside package (since I want to save it). Inside is... slimy. Strange. A really, really strong grape bubblegum smell, but the package is slimy or oily. Smells really good though, like that gum that young kids chew.

To open the inside, you have to... wow. You peel the back plastic backing away from the plastic front (the front has the shape of the candy and is made of harder plastic). The candy sticks to the backing, pulling out of the shaped front.

It's very odd. The candy is ultra-sticky. I dabbed it with my pinky, and when I pulled my finger back the whole thing, candy and packaging, followed. However, I'm unafraid! While the photos are downloading, I will try this candy!

It's surprisingly heavy for its size, but other than the sliminess, it feels like normal gummi bears when you chew it.

Hm, the taste. I wouldn't call them awful, but they're not very good either. Funny that they smell so strongly, but have no... hm. The "grapes" on the "vines" taste really bland -- at best they have an oily undertone, but the "vines" themselves taste pretty good.

So yay! Finally a totally not fatal snack! Great packaging, passable to good candy. ("Good" when compared to other Japanese snacks, not American candies.)

So "Gummi Grapevines" gets a 10/10! Yay!

P.S. My tongue might be tingling and my throat burning, but I think it's in my mind so I'm not going to knock any points off the score.
