[livejournal.com profile] isiscolo just wrote up a little post about the school houses of the HP world, and, well, it's sort of prompting me to make a confession.

I think if I was really sorted, I'd be a Hufflepuff.

This really bugs me, as I find them boring as heck... plus I just love Slytherin... but... How can I deny the evidence? I've been headwiz on a MUSH for 4+ years. That's utterly payless, thankless seven-days-a-week work, often more hours put in there than I put in at my RL job. I *feel good* when I'm doing hard work for others. Example: Modding HP100 is a pain in the butt, and I put a whole lot more time into it than I expected to, but I *like* doing the work so that others can have fun.

How Hufflepuffian is that?

However there is a (smaller) element of Slytherin to me. I can and will do, um, (for lack of a better term) "underhanded" things when need be. Unfortunately, I just think my Hufflepuff characteristics outweigh my Slytherin ones. *sigh*

Hufflepuffs are underrated. It's like the stigma attached to being "nice". It's not glamorous, but... Hufflepuffs are the friends that stick by you. Hufflepuffs are the ones that notice when you're down.

Don't even get me *started* on the houses. The whoe system bugs me, especially Dumbeldore's obvious Gryffindor bias. Grr. =)

Yeah... you got it right on the whole nice/not glamorous bit. I want to be flashy! I want to be evil! I want fangirls to think I'm sexy!

Hey, the Hogwarts Champion for the Tri-Wizard tournament (the, er, legitimate one) was a Hufflepuff. They get an unfair rep from JKR and from fanfic writers, but I think it's the house of the "people you'd really like to be your friends, or co-workers, or mom."

I am far too lazy and elitist to be a Hufflepuff, but I admire them. The most significant OC in my fanfiction, Adele of Scars, is a Hufflepuff.

I understand that they have a place, and that they can be good and useful people... I just don't want to be one of them! ;)

I think I'd agree with you - look at how many hours you put into work, and how guilty you feel when taking a sick day or vacation! You value hard work intrinsically.

I'm sort of amazed at how Rowlings can write tomes as thick as Physics texts, and still almost completely ignore two of the four houses. I've known a lot of Hufflepuff-types that were plenty interesting.

Me, I'd be a Ravenclaw, there's little doubt. I may be lazy, and cowardly, and gosh-darn-it nice, but at least I'm a smart little bugger.

If I were inclined to write Fanfic, and I'm really not, I wouldn't write about Hermione and Harry and Snape and such at all. I'd write the equally exciting adventures of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, that Rowlings isn't. A year can't go by at Hogwarts without something remarkable happening to a house, can it? And it lets you create a lot of original characters without going Mary-Sue all over the place, and have cameos by our beloved heroes and villains.

Bunch of stinking glory hounds. Everyone knows that it's the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws that get all the real work done.

Seconded. It boggles me.

Agreed again. You're totally Ravenclaw to me.

*snickers and nods* Yeah!
