Up until a couple days ago, I had only ever heard a few moments of any Hamilton song. I'm not into American history, and I'm not really into rap, and things that are mega popular tend to turn me off, so I never gave it a chance.

Then someone made a fan video for the game I play. Even though I don't like the character, the song was really catchy, and I found myself singing it endlessly, even days after first hearing it.

Finally curious enough, I googled it to check the source. Huh, a Hamilton song! After listening to it for a few days nonstop, I decided to see if I'd like the other songs as much.

Wow, I completely did. I can't believe how catchy they all are! And it's such a good story!

And now I'm one of you all, obsessed with it, plotting how maybe I could go see it live sometime. When I'm not listening to it, I want to be listening to it.

And that first song I heard, that started me on this road? His songs are still my favorites!

That's a pretty well edited fan video there. (And we got into Hamilton via the Randy Rainbow parody of "The Room Where it Happened" that's about the Russians meeting with Trump, so I feel your pain...)

I can only listen to the soundtrack for a couple of songs, before it all sounds the same to my old ears. However! I really like just about all the songs as individual pieces, just not for a whole CD's worth of my time. One of my flist friends saw it and really enjoyed it. Living where I do, I'll have to wait until they get around to making a DVD of it.

I've been googling about a DVD, and apparently they don't release any until the show closes... so we're probably going to have to wait a long long time (unless you're open to bootlegs).

A couple people on my friends list are really into it as well -- I wish I had listened to them at the time!

Ha! I hadn't seen that video before. Well made and fitting!

Hamilton is a slippery slope soundtrack LOL. I never considered myself a fan of rap but the whole thing is so well done, it pulled me in. :)

Totally agreed! I love songs that tell stories, and, well... hello rap!

Yeah, while they did film the original cast's performance, there's not going to be an actual DVD/bluray release for many, many years. Alas. On the up side, almost the entire show is included on the soundtrack, so you can listen to the whole thing and not miss anything, audio-wise at least, except for a couple of small incidental bits.

I was a skeptic, too, for a long time, even after listening to a couple of songs that a friend pointed me to. It was watching Lin Manuel Miranda's rap about Puerto Rico's debt problem in 2016 on John Oliver's show that made me go, oh, he's very good, maybe I'll give Hamilton another try. Listened to it on Spotify while MMOing and bam, hooked.

I'm bad and downloaded a bootleg. I'll buy it when the real version comes out, but I realized I had zero idea what the actors looked like, what their costumes looked like... I had thought they just stood there and sang, I had no idea there was lots of dancing and production! The quality of it isn't perfect, but it's plenty good enough to add to my experience. Now, when I listen to the songs, I can better picture things.

Actually, kind of a funny thing about that. I had been looking for any videos online about Hamilton, and came to one where the cast was giving a show at the White House. I thought it was so odd that Lin Manuel Miranda was playing Hamilton! "He doesn't look right! That's not how I pictured Hamilton at all! I bet he's just doing the role because the show is at the White House!" Joke was on me! (And now I completely love him in the role.)
