Dogs of War sounds like one I would like to read... and it's too bad you didn't like Indian in the cupboard but I totally get that. I have strong nostalgia for it, and for some reason it's one that held up to a re-read when I was an adult. In fact I think I read the sequel too, later on, and enjoyed it well enough. It definitely takes some suspension of belief.... you ought to try Amy's Eyes, for a story of toys-come-to-life.
