Welcome to the look back on my 6th year of reviewing books! As I will be neither finishing nor abandoning the book I'm currently reading in time to include it in this count, I can post this a little ahead of time.

Trends for the year 2018:

1) Someone please free me from phone games! For the second year in a row, I lost way too much reading time to phone games. I know exactly how they hook you, I know the tricks they use to keep you playing daily, but that doesn't make those tricks any less effective. I was disappointed in myself to see I had mentioned this last year, too.
2) Because of point #1, the only reason I made my 50 book goal is because of the Animorphs books. They take only 2-3 hours to read, so they padded my numbers.

Next year will be better!

Total books read each year, goal of 50 per year.

I made 50 by the skin of my teeth...

Of the 51 book count, 37 of them were completed books. I had credit for 14 books worth of abandoned books. Whenever I abandoned a book, I added up the percent of it I had finished, then in the end divided by 100. Not a perfect system, but no other way of doing it.

Partial book credits for the year: 1,471% (14 books!)

Total books abandoned each year.

Surprising how close the last three years were.

How much I liked this year's collection of books.

Happy reading to everyone in 2019!

Why did you abandon 4 books you liked? I only abandon books if I either hate or dislike them.

Good question! I had to go back through the year to find them.

The first was a book I had previously read but had two copies on my Kindle by mistake, so I started it a second time before realizing I had read it (and liked it) before.

The second was "It's such a challenge to rate a book like this. I LOVED the first two chapters, and then my interest went downhill, so I just averaged out things."

The third was an autobiography. I had only been interested in a part of the actor's life, so only read those chapters of the book. So while I did enjoy those chapters, I hadn't even come close to reading the whole book.

The last was a nonfiction book. It was well-written and enjoyable for a nonfiction book, but I'm not interested in those, so I had stopped reading it.

Copied from above! It was a year of odd special cases.

Well, at least you got some very interesting charts and graphs out of the whole thing LOL. :) I stopped playing phone games but now I just play the real games on my PC LOL. 93 hours in Witcher 3 this year. Oops.

Prettier charts than last year! Each year they improve a little.

Oh yeah, I'll never give up gaming (I'm logged on to my MMO right now, haha). But phone games at night before bed cut into my reading time, so they're the issue... I've even tried uninstalling, but then I get bored eventually and reinstall them again.

Animorphs books really upped my numbers this year, too. Looks like you had far more books you enjoyed than not- all that green and blue in the circle! I'm like you, I abandon far more books nowadays than I used to- that gives me more time to get to the ones I can really enjoy or learn from. Here's to another great year coming up!!

My like:dislike ratio used to be a lot different, before I started being much more picky about self-published books. I was very happy to see how my liked numbers are going up!

Agreed, I used to not want to abandon books at all, I forced myself to read to the 50% point to give them a fair chance. Never again!

Here's to lots more good books for us both! :)
