I've been in this situation on and off for most of my professional life, but it's only started bothering me in the last couple days:
It could be snowing out, and I'd never know it. It could be pouring cats and dogs, and I'd not have a clue. It could be storming to end the world, and I'd not be able to see a single thing different. That's right, I sit in a cube. Three beige walls around me, and when I look out my doorless door, I see more beige cube walls. Beyond them? An off-white wall.
I can't even get up and see a window. I can walk hither and yonder and not see a window. When I walk to the bathroom, I can see a window for the space of two steps *if* someone has their office door open (I have to look through his office to see the window).
I'm starting to feel like I know what prison is like, and I don't like it. Yes, I'm not a woodsy person, I don't go hiking after work or mountain biking on the weekends, but I still like to be able to see outside through a window, to see what the weather is like, to see if the wind is blowing or not.
Bah.

Everyone was quiet overnight. Usually I start my morning with about 50 new posts to read on my flist, but today there were only fifteen. Not enough! Get posting, people! I still have ten hours of work to get through!

Date: 2003-10-23 08:32 am (UTC)I am fortunate enough to have windows within view if I stand up. However, I have been making a point to go outside for lunch every day. This helps tremendously. (Then again, you seem to go home everyday, so this also helps).

Date: 2003-10-23 08:36 am (UTC)Yes, lately I've been eating! And sleeping! And watching TV! And wishing I were employed!
HOW THRILLING!
... don't they make lamps that recreate natural sunlight or something? That might help. Maybe you're getting depressed from not getting enough sunlight, it happens to people, especially in winter.
But now I'm going to make a post about weather, since yours made me remember stuff.
