If it's a weekday day, then I'm behind on my sleep. This is a given, and by this point, accepted. At best, I get 5.5 hours of sleep on a work night. At worst, I get, well, less. I've been especially short this week, mostly because I just haven't felt like sleeping. (Odd that, being tired to the point of making really stupid mistakes, but not feeling like sleeping.) So what'd I do last night at bedtime? Got hit with an idea for a [livejournal.com profile] hpsquick100 drabble and got out of bed to go write it.

It's odd, but writing a 100 word story sometimes can take me nearly an hour (factoring in LJ being a bitch last night, and me having to search once for an online word counter (no Word on home computer) and a second time for an English-Latin translation site).

This week's [livejournal.com profile] hpsquick100 challenge was to come up with a new spell and write about what it does. Please note the 'squick' in the community's name before you click on the cut.

Title: Smells Like Teen Spiri-- No, wait.
Words: 100
Challenge: New Spells
Note: When I think of squick, there's really only one character I think of. Sorry to inflict this on you folks again.

-------

Her dinner had aromas of its own, but Umbridge wrinkled her nose as she caught out-of-place smells. A couple of different odors, subtly related but each with its own unique tang. Herself.

It was hard getting all of her body clean: so many folds and hard-to-reach areas. From under her ponderous breasts came one smell, sharper than the others. The folds of her belly, sides, and knees all shared a reek, while her crotch's was the most different -- and the most unpleasant.

Time to take care of that. "Abstergeo corporeus," as she waved her wand. There, odors gone.

-------

'Abstergeo' means 'clean' in Latin, and 'corporeus' is 'body'... or so claims the online translator I used.

This icon is of Emishi, my favorite character in my favorite anime (Get Backers). He's a total dork and a drama queen, but he's cute and loyal and he loves this other guy enough to want to die with him and meet him again in the afterlife. How sweet is that?

Oh, and Trader Joe makes highly sucky scones. A scone should *not* have the weight and consistency of a hamburger bun. They should not be light and airy.

Well, yeah. Just because it's shorter doesn't mean it's easier. In fact sometimes it's harder, because you don't have the luxury of extra words that don't pull their weight, and you have to line up everything behind the money shot at the end.

Actually, scones are pretty dense on the whole bread density scale. At least compared to hamburger buns.

True! I really enjoy doing that though, looking at every word in it and asking 'Is this necessary?'.

And your subject line quote made me snicker. I knew what you were replying to even before I opened the email!

Exactly. I like them dense and thick, and that's how they should be. Not like a light/airy burger bun.
