Kingdom Hearts
Oct. 22nd, 2002 06:47 pmStupidhead me expected it to come by UPS and not regular mail, so it sat in my mailbox for five hours when I could have been playing it.
The short version is that I don't like it anywhere near as much as FFX. However, that still leaves a lot of room in the 'like' end of the like-dislike scale. I'm trying to decide how much I like it. I don't dislike it.
I know at least Hyper and Chia want to know more about it, so I'm going to go into details on it and my thoughts thus far:
The ever-shifting camera angles make me sick to my stomach. (Motion sickness.) It varies from "not too bad" to "Gah!". At times in the game you run around the corner and the random camera switching doesn't allow you to see where you're going.
Battle: I really, really, really dislike it. That's not a fair opinion because I think I haven't figured it out yet, but basically I seem to just face who I want to hit and press the button as fast as I can. After only an hour and a half of play (and maybe six battles?), my hand/wrist is killing me. Between this and the shifting camera/motion sickness, I won't be able to sit and play this all day like I did FFX.
While playing FFX, I pondered why games don't let you do really stupid things like walk off cliffs. Well, in this one they seem to. Me and my poor movement-control skills kept walking off the edge of things. Luckily the game seems to adjust for this, as your character is more nimble than a monkey high on speed. When you fall off something, s/he grabs the edge of it so you can recover if you need to.
And speaking of your character, s/he needs to pick a sex and be it. I know Sora is supposed to be a male, but he doesn't look it. And his shoes are bigger than his head, that scares me.
Riku. Mmm. I'd call him hot, but I don't lust after kids. What happens with him later in the game was spoiled for me, and so knowing the secret now, I have to wonder how others never saw it coming. His expressions and such, it IMO gives away his later outcome. Mmm.
Most of what I've done so far (collecting logs! Falling off thing-- eh, racing!) have had nothing of Disney in them. When we got to Donald and Goofy my enjoyment level went way down.
Tidus was too cute, tossing his stick-sword around. He looks to be about six. Wakka ... wasn't very Wakka-ish. He sounded like a Mexican Islander. He pronounced Tidus as TEE-dus (should be TIE-dus). I kept expecting him to ask me if we had any TEE-keel-la.
I stopped playing after the race. Maybe I'll pick it up and play more tonight, if there's nothing on TV.
