Long time ago, I said I'd post my opinion on these once I tried them. Well, after sitting in my freezer for a number of weeks, I decided tonight would be the night. (Well, okay, more like I decided "you're going into the kitchen and not leaving until you find something resembling a meal"...)

Three minutes in the microwave and a can of corn on the stove later, and I was sitting down to try them. Two things off the bat: They smelled amazingly good, like the best barbecue sauce ever, and my cat was going insane to try some. I found this with the chickenless chicken nuggets as well: My cat wanted one more than she ever wanted anything before. I don't know if she's missing meat in her diet (because I don't give her bits anymore) or if there's something about soy that she likes, but she nearly took off my finger to get a taste of these.

But before she could try it, I had to! They weren't bad at all. Pretty darned good. I'd say they have the texture of the meat down perfectly, but I suspect I'm sort of forgetting just how meat should be (which seems odd, since I ate it for so long...). The barbecue sauce was amazingly good, which made the final product much better than the chickenless nuggets (and much much better than the meatless meatballs, which I didn't like).

Slightly unrelated: I'd like to know why corn (the only vegetable I really like) has nearly no nutritional value.

So that was dinner! Now time to watch Drumline (no clue if it's a good movie or not, but it's HBO's new movie of the week).

Corn

It's because corn isn't really a vegetable; it's a grain (aka starch/carbohydrate).

Oh, maybe that's why I like it! Heh. Thanks for the info!

corn has carbs like almost no other vegetable (unless potato is a vegetable). It's pretty much made of sugar. Most other veggies have more fiber - which I think are technically carbs but your body doesn't burn them like sugar and starch.

Or something like that

Heh, well that explains it for sure then! Thanks.

Heh, I personally find canned corn nasty most of the time, but I like regular corn on the cob even less as it's all stringy and the cobs stink and... er. Yay for finding more meatless meat! I'm tempted to try them myself to see if they really do have anything near the delicious texture of real barbecued ribs [insert that Homer drooling sound], so if you remember the brand let me know adurrrr. Unobservant me.

To bring up an old subject, I don't believe the LotR films will be on HBO as I came across Fellowship on one of the Encore channels a while ago. I don't think it was the extended edition, either. Perhaps I can talk you into renting it? They really are great films even if you haven't read the books (and I haven't in about seven years.)

In reverse order! I read the books probably 15 years ago? Maybe more? I was pretty darned young at the time. If I'm ever looking for something to rent, I might try them! Even if I'll throw things at the TV when what's his name, the blond elf, comes on. :)

Yeah, canned corn isn't anywhere near as good as on the cob. Mmmm. If you do try the meatless ribs, let me know what you think!
