First yay: A new subbed TeniPuri ep! Click here for the BT. Yay!

Second yay: I'm typing this while looking at my new monitor! Yay! No more buzzing!

It's flat panel, and it's really rather different than a normal monitor. The picture/desktop goes all the way to the edge of the housing, there's no black border like on all my old computers.

Graphics are really nice and sharp, but I'm having a not-small problem with text. Some black text is really blurry (especially the text under icons and in IE's address bar). Other text, smaller text, is somewhat better. I'm still working on trying to correct that.

Oh! And the size is rather different, too:

.

I tried to get my cat to sit on it as reference, but she wouldn't. Scabbers offered to stand in! He's about eight inches tall, and his tail is about ten inches.

The only thing I miss from my old monitor is that I can't put things on top of this monitor (I had so many figures and stuff on the old one!), and I can't really tape notes to this one (the old one was covered with post-its).

So no matter the run-around that Circuit City gave me, I got this new one before the old one totally died, so I'm happy! I was going to hold onto the old one to use in an emergency (in case the current one died), but it's so massive I don't think I can. I wonder what would be easier, somehow lugging it to the dumpster (putting it on my wheeled chair and pushing it out there, I suppose) or putting an ad on craigslist and giving it away... ([livejournal.com profile] tersa, I don't suppose you want it? I'm assuming it's on its last leg, but I could be wrong. But I'm not exaggerating when I say it's massive: It weighs a ton. I hurt my back just getting it off my desk. You'd probably want to get a strong guy to come move it, or maybe a second person to carry the other side.)

Avoid putting it in the dumpster if you can. Monitors contain things that are bad for the environment that can leech into the soil and water and stuff if they're in a landfill.

He's my favorite! He used to have the best position atop my monitor, but now that that space is gone, he's been sent off to the bookshelf to sit there.

No thanks. :) My desk barely fits the 14" (or something) I currently have, and my game plan is to eventually go to flat-panel as well.

I was going to hold onto the old one to use in an emergency (in case the current one died)

You mean, it's dying, and you're going to hold onto it, like the other three old computers? ;)

You know I have two other old monitors as well? "Just in case" I need another one? (And one of them is nearly as big as this monster!) Just call me Mrs. Packrat!

Yeah, it does suck. I left mine out on our porch for ages hoping someone would steal it (you'd think in our white trash apartment complex that someone would!) that way if it did end up in a dumpster, I wouldn't have to feel guilty about it because I didn't do it. No one ever stole it, so we ended up by giving it to one of the local charity places. A lot of times they do seem to sell unworking monitors anyway and we hoped that even if they didn't that they'd have access to the proper disposal facility. Since you're in California, there might be a place somewhere near you that actually does it or that you can deposit them since Californians in general seem to care a bit more about the environment than Utahns do.

Hm, that's a good idea. If I could somehow get it into my car (ha ha ha, I can't even pick it up off the floor) I could take it to Goodwill or something.

Maybe I'll just leave it in the middle of the room and use it as a table...
